Travel Tips for Stockport

Women and Freedom - Don't Tread on (wo)Me(n)

by JamalMorelli

Coming from "more-sexist-by-a-kilometer" North Africa or a just a place with more conservative dress and customs? Well, seeing a 60 something in a miniskirt is not going to be out of the question in Stockport and Greater Manchester. Seeing a teen girl smoking or a girl with over generous amounts of flesh hanging out is pretty bloody likely.

Note to my touring male friends of a more conservative or macho upbringing - none of the above descriptions of women imply an invitation to hiss, whistle, flirt, or speak.

JAM SEZ: Respect them. And no laughing at the naughty granny in the go-go outfit.

Running Cherry Tree Lane

by JamalMorelli

If you are coming from a deadly hot climate (like Fes) you will be pleased to take advantage of going out for a good long run - check out the Tudor houses, the tight little gardens, cafes along Buxton - most of all, breath in that cool air.

Underbank Hall

by Balam

Underbank Hall was built in the late 15th Century and was formaly the town house of the Bredbury Family untill 1823, It then became offices of for the banking firm of Christy Lloyd & Co now and is now a Nat West Bank.

Lyme Park

by Balam

Lyme Park is a great house and country Park on the outskirts of Stockport on the way to Buxton. We called here after the Christmas Markets meet on the way to Buxton.
It is under the care of the National Trust.

It was free to walk around but it cost £5 to park your car
The house was closed for the winter when we called but we had a walk around the Gardens of the house while dodging the rain. The Park is extensive and offers some nice walks.
