Portsmouth for a day in JUne...
by MrsPeel
Hi guys :)
We are going to board a Bilbao mini cruise in Portsmouth second week of June, so I have a few questions, if anyone who is a local has any info, I would be really greatful.
First of all, how is the weather suppose to be in June?
Is it worth to pay a night B&B to spend the night and then tour Portsmouth the day after?
we booked National Express from London & back, because when I went to have a look at the trainline info, the train return was gonna cost us per person almost as much as the whole cruise costs (cruise + meals £110 per person- train return almost £80 per person)
The National Express ended up costing £9.50 per person, as they have special prices for registered disabled and my daughter is a teen, what I am trying to establish is that we are in low budget, so, if a B&B costs more than £50 a night I would have to pass...
I didn't think Portsmouth would have much to offer but coming here to read about the weather I see it can be an interesting place to look around?
I'm not in a wheelchair but have mobility problems, but someone here in the forum mentioned tours, again, if anyone has info on this, would be grateful :)
Thanks in advance.

Thank you so much!!!!
Saw the Travelodge and they have rooms on the special offer for £39 the room, and I found it great, especially as it is a staurday night, I thought it would be a lot more....
really grateful for this :)
Have a good day!!!

No-one can possibly tell you what the weather will be like in June. It may be warm and sunny, it may be cold and wet, it is most likely to be grey and not-too-warm-but-not-cold-either (and English summer).
I'd stay overnight simply to be fresh for the cruise day.
The offfical Portsmouth tourist info site has lots of useful bits & pieces. including access information;

thanks, yes, a bit dumb of my part asking for tips on the weather...though it is getting like this (unpredictable) all over the world lately...
Will go have a look at the site,
:)

I'm not local, but I lived in Portsmouth as a student years back. The centre of Portsmouth is not the prettiest place in England. But there is a lot to see. The naval dockyards, HMS Victory, HMS Warrior, the Mary Rose, Southsea Castle, Portchester Castle, Charles Dickens's birthplace to name a few.

Travel Tips for Portsmouth
Visit the Ships
by Toyin
Perhaps the important activity here is to have the fortune of visiting a real combat ship. In the picture is the commanding officers cabin on board the Nigerian Flag Ship..Aradu. It is not every time a tourist have such opportunity to see the inside of the priced vessels.
So, it is imperative if you have the opportunity to see these ships as they are sometimes open to visitors. I missed the spetacles, the ceremonials, the people and the various ships and Marine helicopters from all over the world that were present here during Trafalga 200.

A BIG BANG
This cannon at Portsmouth gives you an opportunity to see closeup what the vessels carried as armament. They are super heavy and capable of rendering consideraable damage. It was these that gave birth to ships like Old Ironsides and eventually rendered wooden warships obsolete.
Southsea Beach and Seafront
by LouiseTopp
The seafront is one of the most fashionable places in Portsmouth, loved by people & locals alike. The beach goes along the whole southern end of Portsea Island from Old Portsmouth to Eastney. Next to the beach & seafront esplanade, Southsea Common is a huge open space that was bought from the War Department in 1922. It is perfect for kite flying, picnics & casual ball games. Southsea Common is also the location for Portsmouth & Southsea Show in August & many other things all through the year. There’s a bandstand where there’s always music on Sundays as well, all the entertainment is free. There’s also a few hotels & B&’s in Southsea.
Strada
by annase about One of my favourites in town
Strada is definitely one of my favourite restaurants in Portsmouth. They serve gorgeous Italian dishes including pastas, risottos, pizzas and other Italian style dishes. They have different menus for different seasons.
This restaurant is perfect for taking a break from shopping or visiting the many attractions the harbour has to offer. There's plenty of outside seating and a bar area for pre-dinner drinks I love Strada's risottos. My favourite is not on their regular menu, but it is sometimes on the specials menu: the lobster and king prawn risotto. It's a bit more expensive than the other risottos, but it is absolutely gorgeous.
Isle of Wright
by M.E.R.V
If you are spending more than a day in Portsmouth, u should consider going over to the Isle of Wright. There are ferries direct from Portsmouth which can take ur whole car in!
Robbie William's 'Road to Mandalay was filmed on this island btw!
