Portsmouth Nightlife
by li_berri1
Can anyone suggest some good bars/pubs/nightclub in Portsmouth/Southsea for a HEN weekend, this is for all women obviously of mixed age groups, so looking for somewhere nice and probably a bit cheesy and not too young ?
Thanks

Hi,
Id check out Yates which is in the Guildhall Square - its always a nice meeting place with somewhere to sit down or dance, lovely cocktails as well as the usual beers bottles and spirits (http://www.yatesbars.co.uk/) - the clubs are going downhill a bit lately but if you head there then you have a nice selection of pubs and clubs such as Flares (groovy 70's place with a light-up floor), Bar-Me, Route 66 (beware sticky floors!) and several more.
Travel Tips for Portsmouth
Portsmouth and Gosport are...
by Aragina
Portsmouth and Gosport are thriving areas, they were both Navel ports, and up to a point still are, but holiday makers go there in the summer and both have a lot to offer. The Victory you have to see this.
HMS Victory is the only remaining 18th century ship of the line anywhere in the world. She is oldest serving warship still to be in commission.
HMS Victory appears today in the form in which she fought her most famous battle, the Battle of Trafalgar (21st October 1805) at which Admiral Lord Nelson was shot by a French marine from the fighting top of the Redoutable. Her appearance today still gives an immense impression of the conditions on Tuesday 14th February 1797.
Sea fearers
by Toyin
As I said in the opening remark, Portsmouth is home to Mary Rose, HMS Warrior 1860, Action Stations - the Royal Navy interactive showcase, boat tours of Portsmouth Harbour. The people here are sea fearers, and their entire live is determined by the sea.
A lovely walk through Old Portsmouth
by SwedeSarah
Old Portsmouth by the harbour is really lovely, especially in the summer. Last time I was there we had a long walk around there and it was amazing.
Start at Clarence Pier and go along the beach over til the Round Tower. Here you have a great view of all the boats who enter the harbour as well as over Old Portsmouth. Kids should like to run around in the old fortress. Continue to Spice Island and the famous pubs there. Maybe a bit pricey, we went to a cafe around the corner instead. ;-) The pubs around there also have amazing flowers. They were feautered on some local flower TV program. ;) Next stop I suggest the new big complex Gunwharf Quays if you like shopping. It's filled with outlet stores selling cheap desginerwear. But, they don't really have that much cool things. Next is the navybase and old ships to look at. They cost a bit, but not much, so if it's your first time there, go see one of the ships.
Make sure that the weather will be nice and sunny that day. :)
"Chinese Buffet"
by kevin36 about "Water Margin"
All you can eat Oriental restaurant serving a buffet of at least 60 dishes for dinner or 30 for lunch, chosen daily from a selection of around 150.
This is very good value for money eat as much as you want.
The range was outstanding, and everything was topped up regularly. There was even a selection of uncooked meat and seafood which you could take to be cooked as you waited.
Drinks tend to be on the expensive side.
The staff are always polite and they are very prompt at removing unused plates and cutlery.
Very hard to pin point any one thing there are so many things on show and if you don't like what there you can always pick some ingredients to make your own stir-fry.
