Transportation and Staying in Southampton
by Davidfsi
We are taking a cruise from Southampton to Rome on August 8. Our question is what is the cheapest way from Heathgow to Southampton? Also would you suggest us to stay in London the night of the 7th or travel to Southampton and stay there. We would appreciate any help you can give as our funds are limited.
Thank You.

Cheapest way anywhere in the UK will always be by long-distance bus (coach).
www.nationalexpress.com will give you times and fares. There are reasonably frequent buses, one-way fare 14.90 (if booked online).
Trains are faster, but will cost more:
www.nationalexpress.co.uk for times, details and fares.
Staying in Southampton will be cheaper than staying in London, and the latter will probably cost you more in onward transport. Cheapest way from Heathrow to London is on the Tube. Transport options, details and links here:

You can get a coach from London Vitoris to Southampton, of course.

Just to add that you can join the Southampton bus (or any going South or West) at Heathrow central bus station. Southampton airport itself is actually in Eastleigh - you might find even cheaper accommodation there.

Just in case anybody is interested. A new bus link between London "Victoria" and Southampton starts mid-Sept 2009 run by the well known name : Greyhound. During the early days the fares are cheap and the bus comfortable and regular. Look at the www.greyhounduk.com web site for details.
Travel Tips for Southampton
The south of England
by alycat
The city has become of the best in leisure and cultural travel. With major international events, many pubs, clubs and restaurants, a massive injection of Lottery money to improve parks and sports facilities in the city, and the region's best arts and entertainments venues, Southampton is the South's leading leisure destination I met my dear friend gore bhai and his wife as i was leaving UK. That way i will never forget WestQuay shoppin center.
Lifeboat Drill on The QE2
by MarkJochim
My best friend and I came to London for the purpose of attending Bruce Springsteen's Crystal Palace concerts on May 26 and 27. After booking the trip, I found out that the QE2 would be at Southampton on May 26th from 6:30 in the morning until 5 in the afternoon. I figured this would be my best chance at seeing the great liner so I checked into train schedules and found it would be a fairly easy trip to take. So we boarded a train at London Victoria Station early in the morning, arriving at Southampton's Central Station a couple of hours later.
My first sighting of the QE2 was from Town Quay (where the Isle of Wight ferries depart from). Later, we made our way to the Ocean Village Yacht Marina where we board a small boat operated by Blue Funnel Cruises for a harbor cruise. Soon after leaving the marina, the boat rounded the QEII Terminal, treating us with glorious views of the 70,000-ton, 963-foot Queen Elizabeth 2 .
The ship's crew was in the midst of a periodic exam conducted for requalification of her maritime certificate. The lifeboats all had to be lowered making for some very unique photos (during the passengers' lifeboat drills conducted at the beginning of her voyages, it is rare for even one lifeboat to be lowered).
