Good position, but could do with some refurbishment
by TripAdvisor Member JerseyKerry
My boyfriend and I had come over for a shopping trip and the novotel is perfectly positioned if this is what you want to do, as the shops are literally five minutes away. We had booked a superior room which was a nice size and very clean. The bathroom had obviously recently been refurbished and the bed was comfortable. However I do feel the communal areas of the hotel could do with some refurbishment, particularly the bar toilets.
On the whole though it is a perfect hotel for a short stay and the breakfasts are decent. Not sure if it is worth four stars though.
No complaints

Stayed for a saturday night in February to visit Southampton for the first time to take in the shops and the night life.
Hotel was fine, booked a superior room and we were allowed to check-in well in advance. Room was very clean and modern, staff were helpful, overall the place was very clean.
We would stay here again but we will not be returning to Southampton. Left a lot to be desired, for a city this big the eating joints (about 7 of'em) are all situated on Oxford Street. All very nice but if you aint booked then forget it! If you are looking for a weekend break with shops and varied nightlife by the sea Plymouth takes some beating. At least everything is contained in an area that you walk to, that's not the case with Southampton, Very disappointing.
Good value & location

We stayed for two nights at the Southampton Novotel with a special weekend price which included breakefast (60 pound per night). The hotel has an excellent location and is very close to the coach station (we arrived from Heathrow via National Express) and the train staion (where we departed), as well as being close to shops, pubs, cinemas, etc.
Both the room and breakfast were similar to other Novotels that we stayed at so no suprises here (this is a good thing). We would definately consider staying here again if we could find a similar offer.
Good Location, OK Hotel

We stayed at the Novotel in Southampton for one night after deciding we wanted to visit Southampton for the Titanic history. The hotel was in a good location for this, as the maritime museum and the docks were under a mile away. There are shops very close by, and a nice selection of restaurants a 10-minute walk away. The Novotel room was nice and spacious, and nicely decorated too. On the downside it was very noisy, with doors banging throughout the night and a lot of noise from rooms directly above us. The lifts are also very small! Not bad for the money, but be prepared for an interrupted night's sleep!
convenient hotel but didnt like the room
by TripAdvisor Member cuddlyelephant
We stayed here as we were seeing a show at the Mayflower theatre in southampton and neede to stay over as we live up north.
We picked this hotel as it was convenient for getting to the centre, and was cheaper than the room available at the holiday inn down the road.
the room, though clean, was quite basic and it had a really weird shaped sink in the bathroom. It was a bit clinical and sparse and certainly wasnt a room i would want to stay in more than one night.
breakfast next morning was very good though.
i would recommend this hotel for a one night stop if you are passing through the area but i wouldnt want it as a base for any longer than that as it just didnt have the 'comphy' factor for me
LOVELY HOTEL

Upon arrival at the hotel we decided to upgrade to a 'Novation room' after hearing that the standard rooms were very small.
The room was lovely and had a very modern bathroom, really comfy beds, tv, hairdryer etc. The rooms were a little warm (I couldnt find any air con) but you were able to open the windows.
We ate in the bar downstairs and couldnt complain- the food was lovely. The breakfast was a bit on the pricey side.
Communal areas were very spacious and airy and well decorated. The ladies loos could do with upgrading though.
We went for a swim in the pool which was a tad small but lovely and refreshing after a days shopping.
We would say this is a lovely hotel and we would definately stay here again.
Great for shopping and cruise terminal

We stayed at the Novotel the night before we were due to cruise on the Navigator of the Seas. The hotel is very close to the docks, so much so that we were woken up at 6.30 am to hear announcements from our ship regarding disembarkation by the current passengers! There is no view to speak of because the hotel is side on to the dock although you can see some ships by craning out of the window! We paid for a Novation Room, it was o.k. but we weren't very impressed. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel, breakfast was good, dinner was pretty good but seemed a little pricey. The shopping centre is very close and this is a plus point, there is also a TGI Fridays and Macdonalds very close.
There are lots of other hotels in the area so probably will try a different one net time.
Nice but noisy
by TripAdvisor Member resistk1
This was my second stay at Novotel in Southampton. The rooms are adeequate and there was plenty of room for our son.
The location is convenient for touring the city walls and walking to the shopping mall.
The downside is that there is a nightclub complex nearby and if you are there on a weekend, it gets extremely noisy, all night long.
The restaurant and bar were excellent however and there is itnernet in the lobby.
Great for short stay

Stayed for one night last weekend. A comfortable hotel with pleasant, helpful staff. Room was OK, but decore looked a little tired. Pool was small, but big enough to swim.
Ideal location for the shops. Nearest restaurant is TGI's, which is about the only restaurant!
