After a rather disasterous start with our original hotel having a wedding, so no facilities available to us (!) followed by an offer at some other unsavoury, old-fashioned dump (sorry, but!) and a quick glimpse at the clean, but business-like Holiday Inn on the outskirts of town; we were finally saved by a room at the Hotel du Vin, Winchester - Hooray!
We wanted a rest. ie CLEAN, comfortable room, with a decent restaurant on site so we didn't have to search for one - and this did the perfect job. Itw as a little more pricey than we had arraged with Hotel Bookers, but after our initial disaster, they kindly sent us a £20 voucher for our wasted time and trouble.
Anyway, to continue, the Winchester Hotel du Vin in my (not so humble) opinion, is much nicer than the Brighton one. It seems more relaxed, intimate and alltogether more charming. I believe it is the original Hotel du Vin. The room was lovely, with plasma tv, cd & dvd players, wine glasses a&fridge, good duvets and pillows etc A nice deep bath, power drench shower, dressing gowns & good quality smellies.
The hotel boasts a lovely walled garden and the lively in house bistro was perfect for our one night stay. Couldn't really fault it and highly recommend it for some rest and recuperation. The Du Vin hotels are doing special Sunday offers I believe, which include dinner and a room. If you spend £65 for two on dinner , you get the room for £10 - Go for it!
Unique Quality: Relaxed, good food, comfy rooms. Central to the charming shops, restaurants and sights of Winchester.
