Premier Inn: Basingstoke - South

Part of the Premier Inn chain, as far as I’m concerned these hotels usually offer good value with the added bonus of having a steak house type pub attached or next door which alleviates the necessity of driving and not being able to partake in the occasional beer. At this particular hotel we did have a problem with the bed and was assured the mattress would be replaced, it wasn’t and after investigation we discovered the divan base was sagging, we managed to swap it around and got through the next night better.

£29 & £61 per night (room only)

£7.99 Eat as much as you like cooked breakfast

Marwell Safari Lodge Hotel - Winchester: I felt like Tarzan!

I'd never heard of this place before i started searching on the t'internet and i was worries that the glossy website did not portray accurately the hotel, however i was pleasantly surprised when we got here, The rooms were of the African colonial style and were clean and spacious.

The Marwell Hotel is an African style plantation house. Its Zavanna Restaurant offers local produce cooked by one of Hampshire top chefs, Jon Julian.
The Leisure Club offers a swimming pool, Spa, Sauna and a Sunbed. Zuri is the hotel Spa Therapies using Elemis products, offering a range of treatments for men and women. The East Horton Golf Centre, part of the hotel is located just 10 minutes away. The hotel is situated opposite Marwell Zoo and is within easy reach of Winchester and the New Forest.

The food was excellent as was the service. The hotel is situated just opposite the Marwell Zoological park (although we never got to see this) The baloconiesd open out onto an abbundance of greenery and it actually makes you feel your in a jungle - ok sort of.

Not really cheap but you are getting something different.

Well recommended!
