Considering the Comfort Hotel St. Albans in St Albans?

An ancient hostelry. by planxty
This is a wonderful old pub. It stands on the site of the building where King John of France was incarcerated after the Battle of Poitiers in 1356, althouth the present building was not built until 1440. Most of the interior is still original and it is very atmospheric. It was quiet when I visited ( a midweek afternoon in October) although it apparently gets busy at nights. Staff were friendly. Worth visiting for the history.
