Hotel close to Watford Junction

This hotel is quite close to me in Watford but as it is new I thought I'd try it out and it also allowed me to get to an extra night in the latest Intercontinental Hotels Group promotion. I booked fairly late via the IHG website and got a room plus breakfast rate of £45. At first glance the room looked like a clone of one I had stayed at recently in Leith. However being a newer hotel (opened late 2008 I think) there were a few newer features. The TV was a flat screen 32" one with good interactive services including Internet via TV. The bathroom had a dim blue light, presumably so that you can use it in the night without disturbing your companions, and there was a good strong shower. Controllable heating and windows that open were welcome and there is an additional security catch on the door. I find that the continental breakfast is never great in HIX properties but it was OK here, plenty of staff topping up food and bringing out hot rolls etc. The lobby bar is quite attractive and doubles up as the breakfast room. Service was attentive but somewhat quirky. Staff didn't seem to have any defined roles which in a way is good so they can be versatile but it does give the impression of being a bit chaotic. I've been in for a beer a few times since it opened and their failure to sort out the gas pressure is a little annoying, especially when they start spooning the foam out of the glass to top it up. On my guest questionnaire I suggested they get some real ale in but I really don't think they be able to keep it properly.

Unique Quality: The hotels close proximity to Watford Junction train station (two minutes walk) make it very convenient for anyone looking to stay over in Watford and travelling by train. It's also only a 5-10 minute walk to the main shopping area and about 15 minutes to Watford Football Club.
