The Caesar Hotel, Hyde Park London: Beautiful hotel, fabulous location

by miniexplorer

If you like peace and quiet after a long day of sightseeing, this is a great place to stay. It's only a short stroll through Hyde Park (beautiful) to get to the city and if you don't like to walk the metro is really nearby. The service was good, and the frontdesk was knowledgeable about the things we wanted to see and do. I don't think there was pool but there was a gym and free internet. The room was a good size and the furnishings were modern and clean.

The restaurant food was pretty good.

Ibis London Euston St Pancras: A clean and good situated budget hotel in London

by Penelope4

My stay was from 24 to 27 December. I did not expect that I would meet not-so-nice staff in this hotel. The one who did my check-in definitely should not be assigned the same task. There was nobody at the desk when I arrived and when she showed up I smiled and greeted her good afternoon. She did not smile back. She wrote something and made me wait a bit. Then when she finished she asked me "What can I do for you?". I did not smile anymore and said "Well, I would like to check in". After checking my passport she asked me where I am from. I am Asian with a European passport, you see. I just told her that I am Austrian as there was no hint that she wanted to start a small talk but was just curious. The most unusual staff at the reception I've ever met and her lack of professionalism makes me regret booking a budget hotel, really.. That night (24 December), I sat for a long time and two staff in the restaurant chatted and did not even bother to come to my table. The place was almost bare. I stood up and went to another table close to a table which has been served already. There was a kind lady though who greets everyone and takes note of the room number of everyone coming for breakfast. At check-out I was behind a lady who even told the guy at the reception that the taxi was waiting outside because the guy was attending to her check-out, made her wait as he answered a phone and the phonecon went on and on. When it was my turn and paid something (my hotel was prepaid), I did not immediately say goodbye thinking that perhaps I get a bill. Nope, instead, the guy asked if there is anything else he can do without even bothering if I want an invoice. If I will come back to this hotel? I'd most probably check out the other Ibis hotels in London and hope they have more professional staff.

Very clean room. Restaurant is fine. Coffee and tea-making facility in the room. There's even an ironing room but I did not go there. There are newspapers in the lobby. Special offer of GBP 9.99 for 24-hour access to movies and Internet.

Across the street, one can take buses that go to Notting Hill, Paddington.

I found the location excellent. There was a strike but I managed to go on foot to the Oxford Street from the hotel without even feeling tired.

New Butts Farm: B & B in the Yorkshire Dales

by carolynllew

Our bedroom had comfortable beds, ensuite, tea/coffee making facilities, TV etc
It was a short distance from Clapham and NW of Settle, where we started a very pleasant one day return rail trip.

It had pleasant rural views of sheep, a lovely garden, a large pleasant breakfast room with views in two directions, and an elegantly served breakfast.
It cost 26.5 pounds each , cheaper than others in the area.

columbus hotel: my favourite hotel in london

by solcitom87

We really enjoyed our stayed in columbus hotel. We stayed there for 3 days and personnel, acommodation and facilities were more than we expected.

personnel was really kind and helpfull.

Breakfast was really good and it felt like home

room included bathroom, tv, phone and tea equiptment.

the shower was small but not unconfortable.

the hotel doesn't have an elevator. We were lucky that our room was on the ground floor.

location is the best quality of this hotel, 2 blocks from paddington station, near hyde park

Alhambra Hotel: Best Bang for you Buck, er, pound

by erodrig5

This hotel was the best deal I could find in London! They are very nice and have options fot a room with a bathroom and shower in it or not. The rates are quite economical. They include a continental breakfast and are incredibly nice! The lady owner was incredibly accommodating too.

-Free Wifi
-Wash basins in EVERY room
-VERY CLEAN
-Very nice staff
-free continental breakfast (english breakfast or cereal/porridge) + tea/coffee and juice
-around the corner from king's cross/st. pancras tube stations (great place to go all over!); this includes the Eurostar railway station (st. pancras international)
-Very reasonably priced (everything in London is $$$$$)

#7: campground

by hindu1936

Everytime I have been to Oxford I have spent nights at a different campground because I couldn't find the other ones. The last time, I was in a car and just followed a set of signs to the "City Campground #7" and found it beside a quietly running little canal. Flat grassy ground and stores and bus stops nearby.

The facilities included a washing machine and dryer, nice well kept shower rooms, sitting room with t.v. and books. lots of good parking. Just two minutes walk away is the bus area that takes you into Oxford proper. caution--make sure the bus you get onto has the right campground number or it could be a long walk to your tent. We were at the wrong place and knew so ran back to the bus. He was kind enough to tell us where we were, where we needed to go and called the right bus that was coming so we wouldn't have to pay extra fares.

Old Barn House: Mickleton Bed and Breakfast

by amandajayne81

We had a comfortable 3 night stay with a personal bathroom and a sunroom where we could watch TV. The breakfasts were fabulous and the Bed and Breakfast is nearly right in the middle of the village of Mickleton. Within a 1 minute walk to the Kings Arms (Great lunch and dinner venue) and less than 10min walk to two other pubs. Nothing fancy but a nice stay.

St Giles Hotel: Tiny little rooms but great location

by amandajayne81

We had two nights in this tiny little shoebox. That said it had a bed, TV and shower. We are only being fussy but you literally could not fit a cat in the room let alone swing it! The rooms were fairly old and the view was one tiny little window. We were disappointed with the breakfast after what we had been eating at the buffets in Europe but once again I am only being fussy because there were cereals, hot foods, toasts and pastry selections along with fruit.

The location was fabulous we were in walking distance to most of the great places like Trafalgar Square, the Thames, Oxford St etc.

There was a tube station within less than 100m (although we came out the wrong entrance to the station and were completely lost for a while. The concierge were very helpful but the reception staff seemed young and inexperienced.

The other thing that stuck in our mind was despite there being at least four lifts we had to wait sometimes up to 5 mins for a lift that we could fit into (there were only two of us!) they were that busy.

I hope this doesn't seem overly critical I am just being honest.

The breakfast room turned into an Italian restaurant at night which was really quite nice.

Wardonia: Squeeze-On Inn

by Susumarie

We were on the 3rd of 4 floors of the hotel, which has no elevator, the stairway being quite narrow with bends to it, so if you have difficulty getting about, this is not the place for you. The room itself had two twin beds with just enough space between to walk between, and that was it. There was an entry with a bathroom door off the side, which was the only space to open a suitcase, so if you had a suitcase open, you could not come out of the bathroom. The bathroom had a tiny shower stall the same level as the rest of the bathroom floor, so showering meant the entire bathroom was wet. What this equals is very tiny, but it served the purpose; it was clean. There was a TV, but very limited channels; however, we weren't in London to stay in the room or watch TV, so I have to say it suited my needs. If you are looking for luxury, don't go there. If you want a place to sleep, this will meet your needs. I was told after returning to the States that this is in a disreputable neighborhood, but I saw no evidence of streetwalkers or any other dangers, and we were out late at night. There was really no "service" included, no breakfast, no amenities; just very basic hotel stay.

A positive for the location: Wardonia is just down the street from Kings Cross train station, which was very convenient for our in and out of London; and was even closer to the tube station, which was our main transportation; also a busstop right there.
