The Country House Hotel near the sea by LouiseTopp From its first origin this overwhelming site has been constructed by medieval monks, Tudor farmers, & Georgian aristocracy. Now its mixture of striking buildings have been caringly restored & redecorated. The grounds have a private beach, 9 hole par 3 golf course, tennis courts, outdoor swimming pool, mature woodlands & gardens. New European cooking is served in two dining rooms & on the terrace. Newly caught seafood, salads & pasta can be enjoyed in the Beach Café with views over Priory Bay. There’s a warm, friendly atmosphere & a height of service & comfort to make sure that you leave feeling comfortable, invigorated & ready for the "real world". The Priory Bay Hotel is positioned between Bembridge & Seaview on a 70-acre estate with spectacular views over the Solent & Spithead.

by Spincat We tried this place after driving round the island for sometime looking for a hotel that a) had vacancies b) didn't smell of boiled cabbage c) wasn't in the middle of nowhere. So this hotel with its pretty garden felt like the last place we would try before giving up. How lucky we were. The hotel is situated above the carpark in Shanklin old village, and near a slip road leading to the Chine. It has lovely wooded gardens, complete with palms, outdoor tables and morning birdsong. You are only a few minutes here from some of the better pubs and restaurants in Shanklin and yet in a quiet spot. The public rooms and the garden are the most attractive things about the hotel, apart from the very friendly owners. There is a small bar and a house dog. There were no single rooms available when we turned up, so we as well as us taking a double room, my mother-in-law got another double, with £10 knocked off the price. Both rooms were light and clean with good views over the gardens. There were soft toys on the beds which acted as a 'do not disturb' system if placed outside your door. TV (slight 'snowstorm' reception); plenty of room and storage space. The rooms were slightly bland, but perfectly comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. Only real negative comment would be the breakfast. Generous helpings but just not that great, and the sausage my husband had seemed a bit recycled. Experience has taught me breakfasts in B&Bs can vary from day to day. Suspect standard usually higher.
Far and away the best thing about the hotel : its charming owners. We were greeted by the most laid back man in the universe - how does he stay that way after working in the hotel trade? His wife, too, was most understanding when Withnail and I (me and mother-in-law) staggered in after a late night in Shanklin old village. Rosemary Guest House by Helga67 The Rosemary Guest House is a B&B in a lovely Victorian setting. It is situated close to the Esplanade and Old Village (5 min. walk). The cliff path and lift are at the end of the street giving convenient access to the beach. Rooms have en-suite bathroom. Ask for room number 1. It's a spacious room with balcony overlooking the front garden and sea.

Old Park Hotel by tini58de We stayed at the Old Park Hotel in St. Lawrence/Ventnor.
The hotel is in an old building, has lovely interior, delicious food and is absolutely child friendly: they do have special meals for kids, baby sitting service, baby phones for every room and much more. Please have a look at their excellent website.

It was quite nice with friendly people, but the things were a bit old and the bathroom was tiny. It's not bad with a good location between Sandown and Shanklin in Lake. The service was good. I'd probably go elsewhere though if I were to go again because the bathroom was too small so turning round meant losing a bit of my elbow!
Nice location if you're driving. Theme: HotelPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Lake Sandown road
