luggage in Canterbury

by gdehan

If you wanted to tour around Cantebury for the day, is there a hotel or place that you can check your luggage that would keep it for several hours? thanks, george

Re: luggage in Canterbury

by leics

Left luggage is much less common in the UK nowadays because of security concerns. I do ont think there are unstaffed facilities (e.g. lockers) anywhere.

As far as I know neither Canterbury bus nor railway station has left luggage facilities, which is not unusual. I know of no hotel which might allow non-guests to deposit luggage with them.

There are staffed left luggage facilities at larger stations and at airports. You can find them listed here:

http://www.left-baggage.co.uk/locations.php

Bus stations will have their own left luggage arrangements but they are not usually found other than in the largest.

As you are only making a daytrip perhaps you can return to you departure station, or re-arrange you itinerary if you are travelling onwards?

Agreed - neither of Canterbury's two railway stations nor the bus station has a left-luggage facility. I too know of nowhere that would look after luggage. In general now people are very wary indeed of looking after luggage, partly because of the security issues and partly because of the problems they might face if anything was stolen or damaged while in their care.

Travel Tips for Canterbury

Obviously anyone going to...

by adinda

Obviously anyone going to Canterbury has to visit the Cathedral, even though I think it's weird to have to pay to get into a church. But it's worth it, as it's al very impressive! The picture is of the Great Cloister, part of the Cathedral

The Nave...

by coceng

First : The Nave;
It's one of the most magnificent surviving examples of English Gothic architecture...
It was all begun in 1377, probably designed & excuted under the direction of master mason Henry Yevele...
Still, can't get enough of them, another windows in The Nave...

Surrounding Countryside

by kentishgirl

The countryside surrounding the city of Canterbury is beautiful...whatever season you decide to visit.

If venture out of the city centre you will find rollong fields and traditional English villages all around!

Olde World Charm

by nhcram about The Old Weavers House

This 16th century well postioned restaurant is in the heart of the shopping centre and sits by the edge of the River Stour. It serves up some good old-fashioned British food such as great sirloin steaks and stodgy puds like treacle sponge. Reasonably priced with excellent service. A lovely flower decked garden at the back is an ideal spot to enjoy lunch on those Summer days. You can watch the boats as they moor ready to take people on a trip down the river. The puddings did it for me!!

Carvery

by kentishgirl about Victoria Hotel

Located outside of the main town in a more suburban area, the Victoria Hotel serves a fantatsic carvery on a sunday. It cheap and theres loads to eat!!
Usually the sunday meal consists of roasties and meat with vegetables.

A: "If you do not actually need the car for anything else it would be more sensible to take the train from Dover to Canterbury. You can find trains times, deytails and fares..."
