Castles & Small boats
A gem of a seaside town, unlike many others in England, Deal has remained delightfully uncommercialised. The pebbly beach is backed by paved sea defense walls and quaint historic housing that was once the haunt of Kent's smugglers. Small fishing boats are still hauled up along the front and the catch of the day may be sold from the back of the boat. From the pier, the view of Deal's front is a delight. The main shopping street, packed with numerous small specialist shops is set back a couple of blocks from, and runs parallel to, the sea front.
