Getting to Folkestone and other ?'s

by kirst26

Hello, I will be travelling to Folkestone on May 18th of this year and will be staying for about 2 weeks. I'm from the states and I have never been to this town before. My question is.. What is the best way to get from Heathrow airport to folkestone? Also, Is the new Shopping center built? I have been doing some reading and can't realley tell if it actually is finished. Actually, any information anyone can give me about the town would be great and realley appreaciated. We are mainley useing it as a base to take of for a lot of day trips. My grandmother grew up nearby and wanted to come look at all the places of her youth. Thanks :) Kirsten

Train takes about 2 and a half hours, change in London. www.nationalrail.co.uk for times, fares and deetails.

Coach takes about 4 and a half hours. www.nationalexpress.com You may have to change coaches in London; you will certainly have a 'break' in victoria coach station (which is why it takes so much longer).

Coach will be cheaper than train.

Can't help with the shopping centre question, sorry.

Enjoy your visit!

Well Ive long since gotten to Folkestone and then home again. The whole getting through the airport and the bus station was less then smooth but I got to where I needed to and thats what is important. It is a really nice little town. And I hope to get back again at some point in my life. Whats with the Tesco and the Mcdonalds being the only thing open after dark? lol.

Erm.....that's the UK?

Apart from large supermarkets, pubs and fish & chips shops etc, most places close around 5/5.30 even in town centres (though some have a later closing time one day a week). Entirely normal.

Travel Tips for Folkestone

Cliff Top Cafe -Capel Le Fern Folkestone, Kent.

by nhcram

The Cliff Top Cafe is exactly where it says it is. On the cliff top!
It is on the Old Dover Road between Dover and Folkestone and commands fabulous views. The weather was so good today (28.10.04) that all the clientelle were sitting outside. The homemade cakes are good and they serve tea in mugs!! All very reasonably priced too.

THE ROTUNDA

by whitecliff62

This is another view of the Folkestone rotunda and probably the last one you will ever see. This week the old place which has been there for decades has been sold and it is to be pulled down to make way for a new development. It will be a sad day for me because i have all my childhood memories crammed into that place, i suppose you can't stop progress can you. i will keep you informed of any development

FOLKESTONE INNER HARBOUR

by whitecliff62

This is the Folkestone inner harbour, where all the fishing trawlers bring in there catch in high tide. Its totally surounded by sea walls so it stays calm even on a rough day. The photo shows the hotel Burstin in the background, and the old railway that used to take the passengers on to the cross channel ferries, this is a great place to walk on a sunny sunday morning

Folkestone

by grayfo

Folkestone is located on the South East coast in Kent. A resort town with a sandy beach to one side and a pebble beach to the other.

The town has wide leafy avenues, period architecture, a cobbled old High Street and a working harbour.
