The one thing you have to try when you visit Folkestone is the fresh cockles and muscles down the harbour there are about 5 cockle stalls down there and one is open all year round. Let them slip down your throat with a little malt vinigar and a pint of lager Mmmmm lovely. Photos comming very soon.
This is a photo taken from the round hill tunnel on the approach to Folkestone (M20). As soon as you get past this point you are in beautiful countryside which is perfect for hikers. I used to spend a lot of time as a child playing on top of Sugarloaf hill, so its got great memories for me
Canterbury is a great city for shopping and exploring. If you're historically-minded there's a lot to keep your interest, a few things being the cathedral and the Chaucer Tales.
For eating & drinking you will be spoilt for choice in the main High Street and off the side streets.
The railway viaduct in Folkestone is a huge monument and a huge testement to the skill of the victorian builders and engineers. Before the viaduct was built the main rail network terminated at Folkestone so a new rail link to Dover had to be built, the Architect and engineer who got the job was William Cubitt, work began on the viaduct in 1843 and it was the largest construction by the south eastern railway
Every year Folkestone and Shepway stage the annual airshow and every year about 120,000 people turn up, this is because of its unique position up on the Folkestone Leas, because its up on a cliff the air show and its planes are at eye level when they zoom past so there is no reason to strain your damn neck trying to look up. So if your looking for a great day out (FOR FREE) Then Folkestone airshow is the place to go.
