MARTELLO TOWERS
by whitecliff62
These strange looking buildings are called Martello towers and are only found in the south of England, they were built as a defence for the possible French invasion when France and England declared war in 1794. In total 74 of these forttresses were built and construction started in 1805. At first it was thought that each tower would cost between ?3000 and ?8000 pounds per tower, but as time went on these prices rose to ?18000. This photo shows Martello tower number 1, and towers 2 and 3 can be easely seen from here sitting 200ft above the English channel

Theres a bus service to this shopping centre from Ashford international Station. There's mainly factory outlet shops here- a lot of clothing and sports gear as well as home stuff. It's worth a visit for a spot of bargain hunting.

by whitecliff62
Sadly not much now remains of the famous rotunda amusement park, this is one of the only buildings still standing, its the second dome, the first dome and the original was demolished a couple of years ago, this was once a thriving area and packed with holiday makers enjoying a fun day at the seaside amusements but now its all gone, but i still have my memories
Folkestone 2000

"Seaside"
I lived in Kent for 3 months and I found out that people of this county have only two normal beaches - Margate and Folkestone. Margate is always full of people and the seashore is little. Folkestone is not so full (at least at that time when we went there), but the sand is full of little stones, so not very comfortable like in Lithuanian beaches of white sand..
"Market"
But still Folkestone is famous with its open-markets and most of English people goes there just to look around and have some fun:) In the photo my Lithuanian friends tired after a long hot day walking around.
