Romney Farm Caravan and Campsite: Camping in Kent

Romney Farm is a fairly small family run campsite in Romney Marsh. There are showers, toilets, washing up facilities, fridge, freezer and microwave so its ideal for those who like to camp with a few creature comforts.

We stayed here for two nights and it wasn't too busy so we used the space surrounding our tents for a few bat and ball games! On the second night here there was a wedding party and live band which was unusual but it didn't bother us.

Unique Quality: The campsite is within a short drive of Dymchurch, Rye, Camber Sands and Dungeness and the surrounding area so its a good jumping off point to explore parts of Kent.

Hempstead House: Country House Hospitality

This weekend was to witness our stay at this lovely hotel, which in my mind deserves a mention on here as I went to look to see if it was already on VT. It isn't, and we were impressed with this place.
It's quite ironic as this place is only about 15 miles from where I live, and this is the first time I've ever seen this place let alone stay here!
We had been invited to my son's best friends wedding there as it caters for weddings.
Have driven by it many many times but you wouldn't even know it was there, as it's tucked away from the signs that advertise it's excistence!

Unique Quality: I for one cannot believe this is advertised as a three star hotel, in my mind I think it could do with being a four star. From the photos that I will put on here, you may well agree with me.
It's located on the main A2 between Sittingbourne and Faversham and is privately owned. It's set back within four acres of grounds and is right in the Kentish countryside. The landscaped gardens are beautiful and also boasts an outdoor pool for the summer months.
It has a victorian charm about the place with the log fires and antique furniture, and even though it's been extended it all fits in with the surroundings that were already there.
They are now going to have a spa built which will be even more attractive to people who love a spa weekend.

Shirkoak Farm B&B: Lovely and warm and cosy

We arrived for the weekend, needing some TLC and rest from our hectic London lives. We got what we needed and more!

The surrounding landscape is spectacular to say the least, there are good local restaurants in nearby Tenterden, and it's rural but not too far away from amenities.

Unique Quality: A super position (near Leeds Castle, Bodium Castle, Canterbury, Tenterden etc), a very comfortable bed, a private drawing room for the guests to use at our leisure, a tennis court, a (deep!) pond, a fishing lake, full English breakfast.

A really nice thing about staying at this Bed and Breakfast is the vast grounds that they have. Some of it is manicured and the rest of it is wilder.

It was a good choice!

Spoonlets Cottage: Great Kent Cottage

Had a great stay in this self service cottage overlooking the kent country side. There are smaller less expensive cottages, but I was lucky enough to stay in one of the larger ones. It had an amazing view from windows and deck. There is plenty of room with a couple bedrooms and bunkrooms, bathrooms, roomy kitchen ect. Its in a quiet area but not too far from activities, train and more.

Unique Quality: Quiet and secluded. Great for hill walking or as base to other activities in the area. Not super exciting for children, but they will have fun running around and playing. (community pool, not too far away)

*Sissinghurst Gardens: 10 min by car
* Seaside: less than 40 min by car
* London: 60 min by train

The Clyffe Hotel

It’s a family run hotel in what looks like a converted for south England typical old white wooden house. There is also a pub, restaurant, child friendly garden and annex building with extra rooms and 2 cottages. The rooms were clean and comfortable with ensuite bath/shower, telephone, TV and tea and coffee making facilities. The cottages had 2 bedrooms (1 double and 1 twin), large bathroom with bath and kitchen with eating and sitting corner.

However, the service was not up to standards. The people running the place were nonchalant and plain, the cook did not even bother to speak decent English as we did not understand his dialect. The public areas (pub, restaurant, lounge) were not so clean and quite messy, and after having breakfast the first day we decided not to have dinner here as everything was greasy and quite filthy.

Unique Quality: The hotel is a good place for exploring East Kent or for spending the night before taking the ferry from Dover to Calais, as it has a good connection with the ferry terminal.

The quaint little town of St. Margarets-at-Cliffe offers some nice places to eat and a bay down the cliff.

Places to eat:
"The Smugglers, Highstreet: a restaurant/pub with international cuisine and an award. Make reservations, especially during the weekend because it's well-known in the neighbourhood.
"Coastguard", down the cliff in St. Margarets Bay, nice terrace at the beach and good cheese plates and fish and chips.

Star and Eagle: Lovely location

This lovely 14th century pub/hotel is set in the beautiful countryside of the garden of England. There are only 10 bedrooms all of which are tastefully decorated. There is a good restaurant too.
It is here that they filmed the film Grand Prix

Unique Quality: The views from the bedrooms at the back are beautiful
