The Clyffe Hotel
by Helga67
It’s a family run hotel in what looks like a converted for south England typical old white wooden house. There is also a pub, restaurant, child friendly garden and annex building with extra rooms and 2 cottages. The rooms were clean and comfortable with ensuite bath/shower, telephone, TV and tea and coffee making facilities. The cottages had 2 bedrooms (1 double and 1 twin), large bathroom with bath and kitchen with eating and sitting corner.
However, the service was not up to standards. The people running the place were nonchalant and plain, the cook did not even bother to speak decent English as we did not understand his dialect. The public areas (pub, restaurant, lounge) were not so clean and quite messy, and after having breakfast the first day we decided not to have dinner here as everything was greasy and quite filthy.
The hotel is a good place for exploring East Kent or for spending the night before taking the ferry from Dover to Calais, as it has a good connection with the ferry terminal.
The quaint little town of St. Margarets-at-Cliffe offers some nice places to eat and a bay down the cliff.
Places to eat:
"The Smugglers, Highstreet: a restaurant/pub with international cuisine and an award. Make reservations, especially during the weekend because it's well-known in the neighbourhood.
"Coastguard", down the cliff in St. Margarets Bay, nice terrace at the beach and good cheese plates and fish and chips.
