I stayed over a bank holiday weekend. The staff, food and public areas are thumbs up 3 star.
Sadly, my single room on first floor was more like an old peoples residential rest home from the 70-s, the decor was depressing and dated. It was slightly cheered by a small plasma tv (that had intermitent reception) and a sea view, but the hotel does not overlook the beach, it overlooks the bandstand and two residential homes on either side, with a sea view in the distance. It was a long 45 minute walk from the railway station.
Unique Quality: Every member of staff I met was cheerful, helpful and pleasant. Bedding and towels were top quality. The -orangery- restuarant was very contemporary in style with modern furniture and lovely table linen, I did not eat there, as it did not appear welcoming to singles.
The breakfast room was just off from the bar area and the breakfasts were included in the price...the cooked food was variable, but there was a lot of choice... omelletes, bacon and eggs, full English, poached, scrambled or boiled eggs, along with juices, cereals, tinned and fresh fruit. I think they could slightly improve the hot drinks by adding herbal teas and decaff to their menu.
I thought it a bit overpriced overall. If the rooms were upgraded this could be a great holiday spot for a few days. Does anyone ever stay for a whole week in Margate?
Directions: in Cliftonville, opposite the bandstand
