The Trams

by kahunaaccidentale

Would it be a good idea for Blackpool visitors to use the tram to get around, especially so along the Golden Mile Promenade?

Er yes, why wouldn't you? It's famous for them. Going to see the lights are you? Trouble is the weather this time of year, you'll get sand blown in your candy-floss.

I only used the tram once when I spent a night there. Mind you, it is a long walk from one end of the promenade to the other. If you plan on going back and forth along the prom then buy the pass and use at will. I walked all the way to one end and then used the tram to come back.

Yes, why not?

The trams are an integral feature of the promenade in Blackpool, and it is a long way from one end to the other.

And besides, Blackpool was the only place in the UK enlightened enough in the 1950s not to rip out all its tram tracks. My recent European experience has convinced me finally that trams are a Good Thing, and the Blackpool should be encouraged!

Nothing like a bone shaking tram ride, which is part of the Blackpool expereince

Yes the trams are great but sometimes there can be queues, especially during the illuminations and also if it is raining, which is sometimes does! But there are ordinary buses as well that travel along the promenade. Or you can hire a horse drawn carriage but I should imagine they are expensive. Dont know whether you can haggle over the price but I would give it a go.

Visit Kendal.
This is a lovely busy market town with lots of buildings in grey limestone which is easy to explore on foot. The Abbot Hall from 1759 has an art collection painted by Turner and Romney. In the Abbot’s Hall stable is the Museum of Lakeland Life and Industry. There are demonstrations of local crafts and trades
