Pony and trapTHE TOWER
Blackpool's beautiful tower was built in 1894 and looks a bit like a miniature Eiffel Tower.
You can't only go to the top to enjoy a great view over the seafront and the city centre, you also find a ballroom, a circus and an aquarium here.
Unfortunately we didn't have time for a closer look and to be honest I am not even sure if the tower is open in winter. Actually it would have been quite scary to go to the top on a stormy day like when we were there.
On the tower's website there are some nice facts about the tower. Here's my favourites:
In February 1895 a severe frost killed all the fish in the aquarium and new stocks were imported from Germany.
In 1994 the sides of the Tower were painted gold for its Centenary Celebrations by abseiling painters.
On a clear day you can see the Tower from North Wales and the Lake District.
Among the Ballroom’s one time strict rules were: ‘Gentlemen may not dance unless with a lady’ and ‘Disorderly conduct means immediate expulsion’.
