A cheerful and homey place to stay

    by

A lovely inn situated up on a bluff so those with a room in the front of the house will have a great view of the Irish Sea. The rooms were very clean and cheerful with warm duvet covers on the bed and a nice touch of a tray ladened with the makings for tea or coffee. Very romantic without being pretentious.

Starting at 8:30am breakfast is served in the main dining room. The menu consisted of a full English fare with add ons such as cereal and fruit. The tea was hot and fresh and the breakfast most satisfying. Simon was served the delicious breakfast prepared by his wife Cheryl, in a festive jacquard apron which suited his personality perfectly.

Be aware there are narrow stairs to climb here so take care especially if you have mobility difficulties.

Unique Quality: There is a lovely little bar downstairs on the first floor. It is manned by Simon, the owner of Courtney's and he is most happy to pour a nice beer, cocktail and he is even happy to learn how to make your favorite drink. We had a good laugh as he did not know how to make a "White Russian" or for that fact a "Black Russian." I believe now after a couple of trys, Simon can add this drink to his repetoire.

Off season rates are very low so if you have sometime on a winter's day head to Blackpool and stay at the Courtney's on the Gynn for a quiet and inexpensive stay. The Auto Club rates this Inn at 4 stars, a rating that I will emphatically concur with.

    A REAL GEM

    by

"Im sorry we dont really have sea views" said Simon..... I looked to the left out of the bedroom window and there was a large expanse of water - the Irish Sea, in the past I have paid extra for sea view rooms and seen less sea than that, and how wonderful to find a B&B whos owners really care that you arent in any way misled

Simon and Cheryl have owned Courtneys, a beautifully preserved Victorian house, for three years and you would never know this is their first venture into the hotel trade, they get things so right that you`d think they have been doing it for years and years, there are little touches that make it special, a dish of sweets, wonderfully folded towels and a selection of books in the bedrooms, the welcoming friendly atmosphere, flexible breakfast times with a choice of dishes. The rooms though not large are very comfortable and are all ensuite

We visited before Blackpool became really busy at the height of summer and although Courtneys was not full we had a wonderful time with the other guests, Pauline, John, Sheila and Margaret who come here often .... Carl described them as mature teenagers because these folks sure know how to have fun. You wont find Stag and Hen parties staying here, this is a place for families and those who like peace and quiet [though there was lots of laughter in the bar last night] we had a wonderful time and will definately stay there again

Unique Quality: Courtneys has been given a well deserved 4 diamonds by the English Tourist Board, all rooms are non-smoking with tea and coffee making facilities, TV, and most have trouser presses. Hairdryers, irons, and ironing boards are available

Dinner is available, we didnt eat here but it smelled delicious, a three course meal including coffee is £8.50

the Imperial Lounge has a baby grand piano if you would like to tinkle the ivories and can get through a tune that isnt chopsticks, and there is a small but well stocked bar open till 11pm

there is no lift and access is up a short but fairly steep path, so if you have very limited mobility this could be a problem but I found it managable

and I was very happy with my sea view

Directions: on the corner of Gynn Square just off the promenade
