house sitting

by kimilena

Hi, my family and I are coming to Blackpool in August 2010.
Do you know of any house-sitting opportunities then?
Thanks

As you will know, August is peak holiday season in the UK.

House-sitting is really not all that common and such services are usually accessed through agencies such as http://www.housesittersltd.co.uk/

You could, perhaps, google 'house sitting uk' and check out some of the agencies....but I suspect you would not be eligible because you do not live in the UK.

An alternative might be to explore the home swap agencies, which cater for short swaps e.g. http://www.guardianhomeexchange.co.uk/

When you find somewhere you may be interested in ask here about the location. Central Blackpool is a bit wild - you must avoid streets where young people choose to stay in the cheap bed and breakfasts. Choose Lytham, Poulton, Bispham, Cleveleys or the area near Peel Park.

Travel Tips for Blackpool

Illuminations

by miksu

Visiting Blackpool years ago as a kid with the family,my most vivid memory is the Illuminations. The whole area is lit up with lights and stretches for about 6 miles. The cost per year for the electricity bill is about £60,000 and 500,000 lamps are used.
The illuminations attract 8 million visitors each year to Blackpool...They are switched on in September each year.
