STARGATE

by johnny007

Ive been going to Blackpool for many years and have travelled on the Trams countless times and have been as far as Fleetwood, but have never travelled all the way in the opposite direction, what and where is 'Stargate' and what is there.

Re: STARGATE

I haven't been there, either, but you might have better luck finding information on the 'Net by searching for "Starr Gate" - see

As I recall (from many decades ago, Ihave to admit) Starr Gate is really just a suburb of Blackpool to the south of the Pleasure Beach (well, it was originally a separate settlement, I suppose). There is a continuation of the beach and sand dunes, a go-kart track (so google tells me), a slipway and no doubt the odd cafe/shop/whatever given that it is the terminus of the southern tram line.

Unlike the Fleetwood end, the opposite end of the tramline at Starr Gate ends at pretty much nothing. There was a go kart track (I'm not sure if its still running these days) and then the sand dunes that separate Blackpool South and St Annes. Across from the dunes is Pontins - due to close down any day now (with rumoured planning underway for a housing development). Blackpool airport and a shopping park are a few minutes inland from Starr Gate.

Starr Gate isnt considered a suburb, anyone living in that area would call it South Shore (or Squires Gate - after the main road the airport is on).

Be an adventurous devil next time and stay on the tram!

Not for a while can OP be adventurous!

From the official website http://www.blackpooltransport.com/

"Changes to Tram Timetable from Monday 7 September (7th September 2009)
As part of the ongoing regeneration work on the Blackpool/Fleetwood tramway, the line between Pleasure Beach and Starr Gate will close until further notice. Southbound Trams will only operate as far as the Pleasure Beach. During the day the Promenade Line 1 buses will operate from Pontins to Fleetwood. During the Illuminations the service finishes at dusk due to unpredictable traffic congestion."

Foiled!

Time for a quick bus trip to Starr Gate, perhaps?

Although the OP doesnt appear to have revisited, I thought I'd still update this. I drove along this stretch at the weekend end (and paid attention to it for a change) and there's now a new'ish looking large Crazy Golf in place at the end of the tram line. It looked quite a decent one really. Funny what VT helps you notice!

Travel Tips for Blackpool

There are plenty of things...

There are plenty of things that you need to see. Blackpool really does have everything! Of course if your a child or what to be scared then the obvious choices are Pleasure Beach, Tower, etc. However there is also the illuminations, sea, best of all shopping! If you like to watch shows there are theaters like the Grand theater, Winter Gradens - they have a wide range of shows! Also there are amusements like bowling, cinema I don't think you will get bored! My fondest memory here although I have alot is probably just being able to stroll across the beach when ever I want. (As long as it's not to cold!) It really is breathe taking you can just escape from everything and if it's not busy and you can watch the sunset. It is a magical feeling definately worth going.
