"The tower is the epitemy of Blackpool."
Nearest large town(s)/city: Preston.
When people think of Blackpool they usualy think of the tower and the 'Golden Mile'.
Blackpool is brash, noisy, bright, artificial and totally 'in your face'.
That is the way it was designed to be! As long as you know this prior to going there for the 'experience', you will enjoy it and kids will love it but do take your cheque book!
The tower was originally built as a copy of the Eifel Tower in Paris.

"Another Blackpool thing!"
A great attraction that is strongly associated with Blackpool is the trams that run along the seafront all the way from Star Gate at the South end of the tracks to Fleetwood at the North via Cleveleys and Bispham.
The tram network used to be a lot larger, running along the back streets as well as the seafront, when I was a child. (We went to Blackpool EVERY year without fail).
"And the final association with Blackpool."
The final thing associated with Blackpool, apart from the seaside of course, is, of course, the Illuminations all along the 'Golden Mile', which is actually about three miles long.
