More about Lancaster House
Fantastic!
by TripAdvisor Member BlueNottingham
We have just got back from a short break to the Lancaster House Hotel
and I have to say that I found it to be a lovely, clean hotel with polite and helpful staff. We were shown to our room on arrival and treated with northern charm throughout! We upgraded our room to a deluxe and it was a good size with a fantastic bathroom. No problems here at all. The food was delicious and room service, although not a huge choice, was tasty and served swiftly. It won't suit the people who want to be in a city centre unless you don't mind getting taxis but it was fine for our visit up north! Would definately return if that way again. The cuddly dog in the room was an added bonus!
Fantastic accommodation & Event Tribute Night!
by A TripAdvisor Member
I booked accommodation at this hotel, and also went into the Soul & Motown event night the hotel had on that night. The hotel is a four star and I only paid £29.50 for the event night, for a three course dinner, wine and cabaret entertainment, and what a night it was. Fantastic. The accommodation package was £75.00 bed and breakfast, if I attended the event night, this was a standard double room for two people, excellent value for money.
The staff where great on check in and asked if we wanted to upgrade to their new luxury studio suites, which we did for an additional £35.00. The room was fantastic with plasma screen tv, king size bed, lounge area and a fantastic large bathroom with a free standing bath.
The staff were friendly and helpful, great bar and restaurant, the leisure facilities were great, they even had a very large outside hot tub overlooking fields with a decked area -as I had a bit of a pampering afternoon in the beauty room, it was the perfect afternoon, before we went into the function room later for the dinner dance. Top class entertainer who performed Soul and Motown - he was excellent, and really made you feel part of the event. I would definately go again, with a group of friends maybe next time.
Everything was perfect!

My husband and I stayed at Lancaster House as my 40th birthday treat. We had a lovely time! We stayed in one of the new luxury suites. The beds and furnishings were very comfortable and modern with a trendy spacious bathroom. My husband relaxed in the bath, watching football on the plasma screen with a glass of champagne! Who's birthday treat?
Evening meal and breakfast were delicious. Every member of staff was polite and attentive. Outdoor hot tub in leisure suite was very relaxing.
Hoping to return in Feb for my husbands 40th !!!!
They still haven't got a clue

I visit this place regularly for business purposes. Place looks clean, the facilities are fine. But is this 4 star? Forget it.
Yesterday I had lunch followed by a presentation of a very reputable professor. At the restaurant they could not find our lunch reservation; fair enough, there was ample space (an interesting observation I itself).
The menu card featured scones. We order scones and two Cesar salads. The scones were out; the waitress informs us that Scones will be back on Saturday. Nice to know if you plan to stay till Friday only. Were we supposed to stay till Saturday?
Instead of scones we order Danish pastries. After 20 minutes these arrive with one Cesar salad. The waiter apologises, and within ten minutes we get our second salad. That does not square, what took the first salad so long? The food, admittedly, was good.
After lunch we went to the presentation area. The promised laptop does not work. The usual gathering of experts that always follows these events obviously leads to nothing. Staff brings in a complete new laptop, and 20 minutes late we get on cracking. It is 2006 and this business minded hotel is not able to fire up an laptop on time ... ... think again for coming to this place to land a major business deal.
What really brought it all home to me was the question the responsible staff member asked after the presentation of the professor had ended. “Was it a productive meeting?”, the woman asked me. Productive meeting? Totally missed the point, as seminars offer intellectual insight. The woman should have offered us some humble pie instead.
Today we went in for the second lunch, and this time they had it almost right, except of course for bringing us coffee before the lunch, not after.
Great weekend break
by TripAdvisor Member Jaytraveller
Well from reading the last review, you can't please everyone!! all I can say is, don't stay midweek, my husband and I went that weekend and it was just lovely. the price was great, the room standard was excellent, and more over my husband commented on how good the staff were, he stays at many hotels though his work, takes them as they come, but he thought this was good.
I booked though Best Western, then upgraded via the hotel to a suite after reading Tripadvisor-just £10 a night extra got us a lovely suite, with the largest bathroom I have ever seen.
The hotel stands in looking distance of Lancaster Uni and its halls of residents, but is still on the edge of the countryside, and is a couple of miles of M6.
The spa was good and the gym had some new and unseen machines, the hot tub was a favourite for me. I also liked the log fire in the reception, its was nice to sit in here. Breakfast was hectic the first day, next it was quieter, food varied and plentiful. Oh and on to scambled egg - cooked to perfection!
The evening food was pricey but good, not worth the money though, so we opted for a taxi £6 to Lancaster and back next night. Would we stay again, certainly, but upgrade to a suite.
As for being 4 star, well I wont judge, but its got the edge on another British chain I have used this year, and the staff are a credit to the hotel.
Great Hotel, had a short break between Christmas and the New Year
by TripAdvisor Member Jackie-trip
We had read the reviews about the Hotel and one or two weren't too good, so we were a little worried but we cannot fault them one bit. We just had an ordinary room which suited our needs, a comfy bed, a clean bathroom with good quality toiletries. A complimentary tray of tea,( inc Earl Grey) coffee, chocolate etc.. was provided along with bottled water and biscuits.
The bar and the lounge are excellent with a fire buring every evening. We prefer to eat our main meal midday and had a bar meal/snack in the evening and it was served quick and attractively.
Very good selection for breakfast to the small healthy eaters to those who like a good cooked English breakfast.
The Leisure centre was also excellent , the pool was a bit crowded but we were happy in the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi.
Very attentive staff that seem genuinely interested that you enjoy your stay at the Hotel.
Great New Year Package
by TripAdvisor Member Eastieboy
Booked to go for 3 nights for the New Year Package. It was worth every penny, The staff, Bedrooms and food all superb. The New Years Eve Party was an outstanding night, how lovely to see every Gentleman in Black Tie - made my night.
Tim and his team worked so hard to ensure everyone enjoyed themselves and it was a huge success for us. Will certainly be booking for next year.
The Race night & Quiz were great fun & a chance to chat with other guests, a very relaxed Hotel with high standards & food to die for.
A Refreshing change
by TripAdvisor Member Sandra82
After the excesses of Christmas & New Year we decided to spend a night here in order to make use of the pool / steam room etc! Being part of a chain our expectations were that it would be functional and efficient but somewhat impersonal! Not a bit of it the staff were friendly and helpful. We had a lovely room. Also there was a roaring fire in the lobby - gorgeous! We had a very good meal and the Wine List included some particularly good NZ wines. The pool and other facilities were excellent. Although our time there was limited we had enough time to get a feel for the place and we'd certainly go back.
Efficient Hotel
by TripAdvisor Member Stearnshaw
Back to the Lancaster House after trying the Sun recently. I've graded it average because there were many plus points that were sadly negated by the negatives. The hotel is smart, tidy, professional and efficient. Things are generally done when they say and how they say. As a business traveller this is appreciated. The fitness club is good and the free parking is most welcome. However, another word for efficient is functional and this hotel is very functional. I had a meal that was instantly forgettable from the restaurant, the room service food is bland, the bar is just another dull hotel lobby bar, the location is isolated and it's a £5+ taxi to get to the city centre. The bedroom is tidy and ok - plenty of space but, being frank, it could be any hotel anywhere in the world. It's better than the Holiday Inn but designed by the same guy (I'd say). The hotel's full of business people and lacks a soul. It's a place I would never visit if I was with friends or my wife. I can't think of a less romantic place to visit. It's not a bad hotel and one that I will still frequent, but it is soulless and banal.
A lovely break!

We decided on the last minute to go up to Lancaster - booked directly with the hotel who offered 20% discount on a luxury suite. Hotel is in a lovely setting just off the M6 and next to Lancaster University campus, set in fields with lovely views. We were given a very friendly welcome, taken to our room which was fabulous. Contemporary design and new furnishings, we had a corner room and so had excellent views of the countryside. Within very easy driving distance of Lancaster, where we had a very pleasant day wandering around, easy to park, friendly people, plenty places to eat, visit. About 20 minutes from seaside resort of Morecambe. We really enjoyed the Spa - pool, sauna, steam room and the new outdoor hot tub!
We had our evening meal in the hotel restaraunt and it was excellent. Great food, wine and service.
A lot of conference trade, but this didn't make any difference to us holiday makers one bit. Take no notice of the reviewer who moaned about anything and everything - go and enjoy yourself.
