Dont come to Boston!
by goddess18
To be honest Boston is pretty rubbish...culturally its disgraceful. Its a town full of yobs and noone seems to appreciated real fashion and culture. They seem to thing style is a fake adidas tracky and tons of 9carat 'bling'...
however boston sometimes has its brighter moments...id advise visiting Bostons party in the park which was last weekend. its usually the middle of july and is basically a mini festival with beer tents rides and bands playing its always a giggle anyway! or visit the Blackfriars theatre and see one of the local amateur productions which are always pretty impressive! probably performing at my local theatre and my friends and family.
Home of a comic film genius
by sourbugger
"Old mother Riley" the Irish washerwoman was a comic creation of Arthur Lucan.
Arther was born as Arthur Towle in 1885 in the small village of Sibsey, near Boston.
He moved to Boston with his family when he was five. It was Shodfriars Hall (which housed a theatre) within sight of his home, that first saw Arthur first trod the boards. The Hall still exist, but only now houses a snooker hall and shops.
He went on to top the bill at variety theatres all over the country, and made 15 films.
He was buried in Hull. Itseems a shame that to my knowledge there is nothing commemorating him in Boston.
Full of Christmas cheer !

Went out to Leverton tonight, a small village four miles north of Boston on the Skegness road.
'Meadow Bank' is a cul-de-sac of about twenty houses just off the main road.
In December it will be easy to spot, as nearly every house in the street covers itself in lights and various assorted snowmen, reindeer, Father Christmasses and even (with somewhat questionable taste) Homer Simpsons.
This advent madness is all in the name charity as people visit and leave donations for the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution)
On the first Sunday in December (in the freezing cold) they hold a big outdoor BBQ with the whole village queueing down the road for burgers and gallons of mulled wine with an extra special ingredient.
I visited tonight, hope you enjoy the photo of me with my daddy.
Portakabin delights....

I could not really bring myself to write about the Riverside cafe in the restaurant tip secion.
It's name would suggest a bucolic location by the side of a winding stream. In fact it is situated on the side of a muddy truckers yard on the Riverside Industrial Estate.
'Cafe', too might conjure up images of fine french food served by immaculate waiters on little table outside a canopyed restaurant with a nice little red wine to accompany a light meal. Here you will get egg, bacon, sausage, beans and chips - with lashings of hot tea. Like it or lump it.
Despite my above ramblings the Cafe is clean and well run by pleasent staff who do a mean fry up. Just the thing for an early morning on the road.
Find this place by the signs to it just south of Boston on the Spalding road.
It would be easier to find if the small minded little council officials around here did'nt threaten them with a two-thousand pounds fine for putting an advertising sign on the public footpath.
Boston: Medieval Port
by Tom_Fields
"Boston: The Original"
Here is the original Boston. This town was one of medieval England's busiest seaports. Here, the River Witham winds its way to the Wash, which is an inlet off of the North Sea. Boston is in southeastern Lincolnshire, near the border with Norfolk. Its old town centre has seen few big changes, preserving its old medieval appearance.
"The River Witham"
This river was once a key artery of commerce. It's relatively quiet today, with only an occasional pleasure craft plying its waters.
