More about Branston Hall Hotel

This is where I live

by bmwz3

Lincoln is an exciting and very historical city, I have lived here in a small village just outside for 6 years and I love it. The restaurants and nightlife are great as you can choose exactly the type of evening you want. We have the cathedral of course where the film the Da Vinci code was filmed, and we have museums and art centres. We have a great and ever growing university so of course bars and cafes are everywhere. One of my favouite places is on the Brayford and it is a floating restaurant specialising in seafood called the Barge. The mood is romantic and as you eat and look out with all the boats and yachts you could be anywhere. If you like walking or cycling this is the place to be as Lincolnshire is quite flat. A tip for a hotel would be a place called Branston Hall Hotel ( it has a website) visit it is just old English country hotel heaven.

Heathrow to Lincoln

by Sinkers

Hi people,
Are you able to offer some assistance? We are arriving at Heathrow Airport on Malaysia Airlines in July and require transport to Lincoln. Any ideas??
We were hoping to arrive stright into Humberside Airport howevere KLM are the only airline to do this and they are booked out. Does anyone know how easy it would be to get train or aflight to Humberside/Linclon?
Thanks

Get the tube to Kings Cross and take the train. I think you will need to change at Grantham.

Could you fly to the new Robin Hood Airport near Doncaster from Heathrow? If you could you could then just take a short train ride on a Doncaster to Lincoln train. If not its any north bound train out of Kings Cross that stops at Newark Northgate - change here for Lincoln but you have to cross the town centre to go to Newark Caslte station to pick up a Lincoln bound train. If you get off at Grantham you would take a Skegness bound train and change to a Lincoln train at Sleaford. Check times carefully though because the service is not great. Try www.centraltrains.co.uk for times and also www.gner.co.uk.

www.nationalrail.co.uk will give you train times and fares. The airport referred to is usually called Nottingham/ East Midlands in airline pages(I think the 'Robin Hood' title is very new) , code EMA. It's fairly small, but if you do get a flight there the airport pages will give you transport links. Wherever you land, expect a long-ish onward train journey, with change/s. It is possible that there might be a coach from London Victoria (or Nottingham, if you land at EMA). This will take longer, but may be much cheaper and pssibly worth investigating. www.nationalexpress.com for times and fares.

Travel Tips for Lincoln

Lincoln City Football Club

by billy75

A must is to go watch a game at Sincil Bank. Lincoln City is a community club that has a average attendence of around 5,000 but goes up to 9,000 for top matches. there is a great attmospher at games. We have got into the play offs the last 3 seasons and was unlucky in both finals.but theres always this season witch we again are in the play offs with 2 games to go. Our nick name is "The Imps" this comes from the imp that can be found in Lincoln Cathedral if you have a good eye.

It just looks right to me....

If ever there was a sterotype of what a prison should look like : Lincoln fits the bill.

Located on Greetwell road (ironic name eh ?) you can only gain entry by comitting a crime - a little extreme even by VT standards.

It's most famous resident in recent years was Jeffery Archer, who was jailed for crimes against literature (OK, he wasn't , but he should have been)

Worth the entrance 'donation'!

I don't generally like paying to visit a place of worship however Lincoln cathedral is of great historical and architectural importance so possibly the £3 charge is justified. The notice at the door explains the daily cost to maintain the building runs into the thousands. When I have taken friends on a visit I stand at the back near the heaters(!) or visit the private chapel at the side where you can wait as long as you respect the need for 'contemplation'.
The cathedral houses a rare copy of The Magna Carta (a 13th century document which asserts mans right to enjoy civil liberties)

New Life Church

by supercarys

If you're looking for a church with music that really rocks, New Life is the church for you. It's a non-denominational church with a big mix of young and old people. The pastors are all good for the most part, many of them quite biblically based. They work on a rotating roster which means you may catch the same sermon twice if you're unlucky! I only did once though.

An excellent church for young people especially (maybe mid teens to 30) but welcomes all.
