The Castle itself is available to be viewed by either a tour guide (for free) or on your own accord. We decided to go by ourselves and take it all in, in our own time.
As you enter you are standing in the middle of the Castle grounds with small gardens to the right and old buildings infront of you and to the right. The building to the left is the old dungeons and prisons from the criminals and people that were caught and was sentenced to be hung. As you go into each room, you will have a small plaque which will tell you the history into what happened in each place and who was held in the rooms.
The old building at the back of the grounds was (and still is) a working Crown Court. When we went (which was a Sunday), we couldn't get into the Courts to have a look around, but I can imagine you more than likely will when the courts are open.
You can also go upto the Observatory tower and take a look at the amazing views. The stairway to the Tower can feel quite claustrophbic to some.
You can walk 90% of the perimeter of the castle walls with some amazing views of the Castle and surounding areas including the Cathedral.
The Castle was well worth the small entry price paid, and you don't have the feeling o f being rushed.
