The old ways are the best

I stayed in the Mayfield for 16 months whilst working in Lincoln. It is a fair comment to say that the car park is cramped and the decor is dated. It is also fair to say that for twice the price, one can book in to the ultra modern Holiday Inn Express (which I did on three occasions in the 16 month period due to full bookings in the Mayfield) and enjoy ultra modern facilities.

However, the one thing that these new establishments simply cannot replicate is the traditional welcome of a family run guest house. After 16 months, I practically felt like a surrogate son, and that owes everything to the owners (particularly David), who take great pride in the excellent service that they give to their guests. As it should be of course.

I am in my late 30s, so gratuitous modernity is very tempting, but the Mayfield represented the perfect combination of value for money, convenience and a cracking plate of scrambled egg on toast, but most of all, a sense of being valued as a guest. To say that the hosts could not do enough for you would be an understatement indeed!
