They are supposed to be a pair, yes (looking in opposite directions). No idea about names though.

Here's some interesting history on the Liver Bird-http://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/maritime/archive/displayGuide.aspx?sid=27&mode=html&sorStr=s_no%20ASC%200&serStr=

It doesn't give them names though.

If we are talking about the TV series "The Liver Birds" click on this link.

Sandra and Beryl were the two girls in the most popular run of the series

Travel Tips for Liverpool

FRIENDS

by sabsi

I spent wonderful days around here with VT friends :)

Steve and Susan had booked us into "Hotel Sandy" for a night so that I could see Liverpool finally. The brought me there, we met up with Sandy and Dave in the afternoon and they showed us around, took us home, bought us dinner and gave us a wonderful place to stay.

Thank you everybody! You made me realise once again how great VT tourism is :)

The Dropping of Litter - A LIverpool Custom

by SapineKuu

The writer Bill Bryson commented wryly upon arriving in Liverpool that he thought we were in the middle of a litter dropping festival! It is certainly true that many people seem to think that is o.k to dispose of their rubbish by simply dropping it on the floor. The City Council say they are getting tough on offenders but so far it doesn't seem to have made much difference! Can't recommend it however as you might just be the one to get caught!

If you get the chance, check...

If you get the chance, check out St John's Gardens which is located to the rear of St George's Hall. St John's Garden takes its name from St John's Church which stood here from 1783 until 1887. Many French prisoners of war who were detained in Liverpool during the Napoleonic Wars were buried in this churchyard. The former church site and churchyard were laid out as terraced gardens by Thomas Shelmerdine, the City Surveyor, and opened to the public in 1904. The garden contains a number of monuments commemorating people associated with reforming some of the most pressing social problems of the nineteenth century. http://www.liverpoolpictorial.co.uk/stjohns

All you need is money....

by sourbugger about Rock off

The Shipyards may have gone, the port maybe on it's knees, but Liverpool is no longer the economic basketcase it was ten or twenty years ago

New industries have sprung up - and trading on the music heritage of the city is certainly one of them.

The "Rock off" shop in Matthew street inhabits a corner of the small shopping centre. Virtually every kind of T-Shirt, Poster, mug nick-knack a curio you could imagine is on sale here. There is a very heavy reliance on Beatles inspired pieces, but many other singers and bands feature as well. Obviously everybody needs the last example to go on sale of Beatles figurenes in their 'Yellow submarine garb' - a snip at fifty quid ! From about a quid up to thousands
