Holiday apartments (self-catering apartments) in Liverpool
by Lethe
I am planning to spend a week in Liverpool in May. I've been told that renting a holiday apartment would be cheaper and more convenient (mostly because of the possibility to cook and do the laundry yourself) and I have been searching around but the holiday apartments I have found so far are all much more expensive then hotels. Am I searching in the wrong places or was my friend wrong when she said they would be cheaper? I am looking for a holiday apartment that costs no more then £280 per week (preferably even less), would it be possible to find one in that price range?

Self-catering is only usually cheaper than hotels/hostels if there is more than one of you. 280GBP is not much for a week's let (40GBP per night is not much at all, to be honest)
This site:
http://visitliverpool.com/site/accommodation/accommodation-types/liverpool-self-catering
is the official tourist board, and lists all self-catering options.
You might be lucky, but I think you will find it cheaper to stay in a hostel or, possibly, a bed & breakfast establishment (though 40GBP is not much for them either).
I think a hostel will be your best bet, although there are only 3 and none offer cooking facilities.. Explore what's available on:

Thank you for your answer!
I was afraid my budget might not be enough for self-catering apartments so I will start exploring other options (hotels/hostels etc).

There is quite a lot of well priced apartments in Southport - Southport is a great town and only 40 minutes in to Liverpool on regular trains.
Travel Tips for Liverpool
Take in the two Cathedrals: ...
by StirCrazy
Take in the two Cathedrals: Anglican and Roman Catholic. Both are within easy walking distance of each other and, whether you appreciate the Christian angle or not, the respective architectures are something to behold.
From the outside, the RC Cathedral is pretty hideous and little more than a strange shaped grey monstrosity... inside, it is a different story, a blend of colour and space and airiness and light.
The Anglican alternative is a little more traditional but was built in the 20th century so is not as old as it first appears. And it has a particularly good refectory/tea room, thus making it my firm favourite of the two!!

Bluecoat Chambers

Opposite Marks and Spencers a short side street leads to the Bluecoat Chambers.
This building dates from 1717 is the oldest in Liverpool and perhaps the lovliest - although many would argue in favour of the Liver Buildings.
It also has a great little cafe here, just a short step away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.

You will always meet some nice people around to have a chat for a while. I found most Liverpoolians very friendly and always open for a short talk. Loved that, you feel like part of the family everywhere you go. :) Must be the Irish blood in many of their hearts....
Bold Street
by King_Golo about Westworld and around
Westworld and several shops in the immediate surrounding area are a mecca for shoppers. I never cared much for shopping until I went to New York last year - but since then, I'm not opposed to shopping anymore. So being in Liverpool in the beginning of March, my steps soon led me into the shops along Bold Street. Westworld is one of them where I bought some new t-shirts, but the others around are similarly worth visiting. All the ones I visited had a large selection of rather crazy t-shirts by brands as of then unknown to me. Moreover, you'll find military style jeans, caps, 70's jackets and much more. In my opinion the ideal place to get your clothes for a hot club night! There's a discount for students (10%) and when I was there also a general discount of 40%. This means that you pay roughly 10-15 quid per shirt.
The Arkles.
by DUNK67 about The Arkles.
A pub situated next to Stanley Park. It is fairly big but on match days of Liverpool and Everton Football Clubs it can get quite packed. There is a big screen to watch live sport. Anything goes.
