in the town centre, you've got the China town, but I never ate there in 10 years of living in Liverpool. ALways seemed a little overpriced, and non of the restaurants looked attractive. On the other side of the city (not far really) there is the Mandarin www.mandarinliverpool.co.uk and Shang Ra La (spelling?)
However, my favourite by far is the Chung Ku about 1 mile out of the city on the river. This is easily the best view / food you will get from a chinese in Liverpool. Check first to see if its still open as its been a few years since I last went ! You'll have to do a quick search on yahoo for the right phone no.

The Chung Ku is probably one of the most expensive chinese restaurants in Liverpool.
Any of the Chinese restaurants in Berry St / China Town area serve decent food, as long as you dont go in about 3.00am in the morning.

Hi Greg,
The two restaurants we use are the Mei Mei on Berry Street or the Ma Bo on Nelson Street in Chinatown. Both are very popular with the Chinese community which is usually a good sign. The Mei Mei is quite smart whilst the Ma Bo is lets say err.... more Phoenix Nights (plastic table clothes, odd crockery etc. but serves great soups and pretty friendly. Both are moderately priced.

Travel Tips for Liverpool
Great North Western Hotel
by yooperprof
Alfred Waterhouse designed the Great North Western Hotel in a gothic revival style that reminds me of some of the great Canadian railway hotels. He is perhaps best known for being the architect of the exuberant Natural History Museum in South Kensington. (Incidentally, his brothers helped to found the Price Waterhouse accountancy firm.) It stands proudly next to Lime Street Station in central Liverpool.
Packing List

Rain gear for sure! I was there for 3 weeks and the only day it didn't rain, it snowed. Your umbrella better be a good one as I personally experienced wind gusts of 90 miles per hour on the western Wales coast.

speke hall, a national trust period house in speke.
Also southport, and new brighton resorts nearby (by train, ferry). visit the wartime intelligence centre in brunswick st, city centre, and the beatles museum, albert dock. The walker art gallery and museums are a must(city centre).
The cavern

famous for the Beatles; usually full of kidsparticularly at the weekend. Monday nights use to be student night. Quite small place, gets extremely full and very hot and sweaty. Plays a wide range of music, including the beatles. i think it has 3 dancefloors; the original one used to be the best

The first time there (January 1999), I took the train from Manchester, which is about an hour away. Britain has a terrific rail network. The second time, I took a ferry from Dublin, Ireland. The various ferry operators use different dock facilities. I used NorseMerchant Ferries, which has beautiful, almost new (1997) ships and a very convenient overnight schedule (saving a night at a hotel). The cabin was comparable to those on cruise ships. Unfortunately, they use a dock about 2-3 miles north of Liverpool, with no transportation available except taxis, which must be arranged. Still, it was a good choice, all things considered.
You can walk most everywhere in the city center. Buses are available, as are taxis.
