Re: help!

The reply concerning drinking under age in a restaurant is incorrect. Young people aged 16 or 17 can drink beer, wine or cider with a meal if it is bought by an adult and they are accompanied by an adult. It is illegal for this age group to drink spirits in pubs even with a meal.
In this case you can order wine or beer to be drunk by your friends as long as they have a meal. The law is a little vague however on what constitutes a meal. For example, a toasted ham sandwich is not a meal, but does serving it with french fries make it a meal?
If you book the table for you and your friends, they will be classed as being accompanied by an adult so will be allowed to drink alcohol. So why not go for a game of bowling, or similar, followed by a restaurant?

You posted this on a travel forum, so I'm wondering if you are thinking of a short trip with your friends to celebrate your birthday? If so, what are your interests and where might you want to go?

Re: help!

I think the question was aimed specifically at those who know Liverpool and therefore might know of a good night out for under 18's in the Liverpool area; ergo, it is a travel question, I think :)

Travel Tips for Liverpool

Check out the Super Lamb...

by littlesam1

Check out the Super Lamb Bananna Statue. This is a really strange piece of street art. I am not sure just what the artist was trying to say, but it seems to be very popular in Liverpool. There are Super Lamb Bananna postcards, magnets, pictures, etc available at the souvineer stands. My daughter really thought it was interesting. I thought it was strange!

Scouse

by drgrcook

This is the name given to the regional accent of the people of Liverpool (who are known as Scousers).

This unique accent owes much to the Irish influence and also the pollution of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries which led to a nasal twang due to the chronic blockage of the sinuses. (Try pinching your nostrils and speaking through your nose and you are halfway there!).

It is presumed that the name derives from a dish - lob scouse, made from vegetables and scraps of cheap meat which was eaten by sailors.

The late Fritz Speigl researched the origin of the word and interestingly found an old German recipe for "Labscouse - A sailors' dish".

Look out for Fritz's book, my photo is of the first edition and remember that when complaining to the waiter that you have no meat in your stew, the correct phrase is "Eh! Dis is blind scouse"

Do not expect to find a local who speaks a foreign language. Shamefully language teaching in British schools is poor and its study mostly voluntary. You will rarely find menus or signs in anything other than English.

Hopefully the City of Culture status will change this.

Mike Kemble has an interesting personal site about Liverpool. The web address is below.

Shrewsbury

by margaretvn

Visit the town of Shrewsbury,
it is the historical capital of Shropshire and is almost encircled by a horseshoe bemnd in the river Severn. This meant that the site lent itself naturally to fortification. The town's strategic significance is suggested by the names of the old two oldest river crossings: Welsh Bridge in the west and English Bridge in the east.

Fit in with the locals....

by sourbugger about Liverpool Football club Souvenir shop

Many visitors to the city are devoted followers of Liverpool FC (current company excepted) and so the desire to buy replica kits and the like is no doubt attractive.

The main store is at the stadium, underneath the 'Kop' although there is also another large store near Clayton Square in the city centre(just ask a local) Announcing Sourbugger's end of season Liverpool FC sale - whilst stocks last :

Cheapest Car park at John Lennon Airport

by DAO

John Lennon Airport has very few carparks and they are stupidly expensive. Park and Fly has parking on a nice farm and will beat any price you can find eleswhere.

I have used them 5 times and they operate 24 hrs a day. The trip to the airport takes 5 minutes.

Nice fellas.
