Only 6 hours to see everything

by DaveDeakin

Hi everybody
Let me start by thanking you all in advance. I will be in Liverpool for just 1 day (a Saturday), for about 6 hours. I’ve a list as long as your arm on places I would like to see and things to do, but there is only so much you can do in 6 hours. My question is, ‘if you had only 6 hours to spend in Liverpool, which 4 or 5 things would you not miss’. Also, are there any good restaurants or food bars at a reasonable price near the main attractions.
Once again thank you for your help.
Dave

Hi,

you shouldn't miss Albert Dock and the riverfront. There are great restaurants and bars there so make sure to reserve enough time for this part of town. Chinatown and the surrounding area is nice as well.

To save time (eg for great shopping opportunities in the city centre ;) I would skip the cathedrals because I think they are quite ugly. But some people like them so maybe you have to find out for yourself I guess.

Enjoy Liverpool!

Personally I quite like the 'new' Catholic Cathedral. It is only a short walk up the hill from the city centre. It is a rare decent piece of 1960's architecture.

There is also the Tate Liverpool Art gallery down at the docks, if you like world class 20th century fine art, or if it is raining and you want something inddors to do that is free.

hi, just come back from a trip to Liverpool and it was great.

i would take a trip to the Docks where there are lovely little shops and cafes, also you can walk alongside the Mersey and check out the Liver building. You can then head to the City centre and have a walk down Matthew Street past the famous Cavern Club. I didnt spent too much time in the city centre concentrating more on the docks and Beatles tours (although time is going to make it difficult to do any tours)

We did cover the Beatles Story museum in about 2 hours so it may be an option

LIVERPOOL LIVERPOOL LIVERPOOL... Here's an image of Liverpool's UEFA Cup celebrations. Not a good quality picture since it's a snapshot from my TV. There were nearly half a million people cheering for Liverpool.

Liverpool are one of Englands most successful clubs. I really enjoy going to Anfield as the atmosphere there is electric, well it is if Liverpool are winning, if they aren`t then it can be quite quiet. To watch the match the only equipment you really need is a good strong voice to sing your club`s songs and encourage the team and your eyes to actually watch the game, some people do take a pair of binoculars if they sit far from the pitch.
Apart from the above the club s encourage you to buy their merchandise to enhance your matchday experience, you can buy virtually anything from hats and scarfs to the full blown replica kit, which generally is updated annually.

Port Sunlight

by hayward68

This village was created by industrialist William Hesketh Lever (you know, the soap) for the workers of his factory back in 1888 as he was unhappy with the conditions in which his workers were living, so he built his own village to house these workers.
It was quite a revolutionary type of thing to do as most workers lived in slum like conditions, so to have this to live in must have seemed like a gift from the gods.
He also provided them with schools, libraries and other private buildings so that would have the chance to improve their lives.
Thirty architects built the different buildings in an area of approximately one square mile. The number of different architects accounts for the varying types of architecture that you find in the village.
The homes are now extremely expensive and you need mega bucks to live there.
Port Sunlight is about 10 minutes driving time from the centre of Liverpool. It is also possible to reach the village by public transport and train. The trains run approximately every 15 minutes.

GRAPES

by Onedragon about GRAPES

THIS CLUB WAS IN THE 60"S A PLACE THAT THE BEATLES USE TO GO AFTER PLAYING LONG AND HARD AT THE CAVERN AND THEN GOING TO THE GRAPES TO HAVE SOME BEERS.. SO THEY USED THIS PLACE AS A RETREAT FROM THE HOT AND SWEATY ATMOSPERE OF THE CAVERN.
THERE IS STILL A PICTURE OF JOHN,PAUL,GEORGE AND PETE BEST FROM 1961 HAVING SOME SUDS.
THIS IS THE PLACE PETE BEST HEADED TO AFTER HEARING THAT HE HAD BEEN KICKED OUT OF THE BEATLES........ SEEMS CASUAL......
