Ferry across the Mersey

by oxfordlad

I am coming to Liverpool for a long weekend in August,is it best to do the Ferry across the Mersey trip Friday afternoon or on the Saturday?

Re: Ferry across the Mersey

Hiya La, It does'nt matter which day but book the ferry tour ticket,it takes about 2hours and the commentary is a chance to learn a little of the river history.
The river-front at the Pierhead is not very good at present due to massive building projects---but still go and enjoy my home town and it's people.
Take in the Albert dock, Matthew St, some of the old pubs around Matthew St---
you will be back--Taraa!

Either really is ok, on Friday you may catch the commutters but its never too busy.
If you come on the bank holiday weekend its the Mathew Street Festival so there will be loads going on and loads of free entertainment. However you will need to book accomodation soon as it will be very busy.

For all your sights it may be worth investing in this:

Travel Tips for Liverpool

Liverpool Museum is very...

by SillySausage

Liverpool Museum is very interesting and the Picton Library is quite startling - similar (in shape) to the one in the British Museum. The things I always miss are the coasts, the rivers and Birkenhead docks. Just to clarify the latter, I go that way every day in the morning and evening, and the views are spectacular then - although it wouldn't come out on a photo.

Beatle Sculpture

by sandysmith

Memories of the Beatles are everywhere.
In the basement of the Cavern Walks shopping centre is the sculpture in memory of the "Fab Four". There was even a poignant boquet for John Lennon there...it was near to the anniversary of his death at the time.

there are places i remember....

i put this here in the hope you listen to it soon...i was laying in bed...just about to get up...really.I hav my radio on timer to wake me and as 'Excess Baggage' was finished,it was time to get up and put the kettle on for a cup of earl grey...but then a programme was introduced...'Inside the Cavern'...with Midge Ure...it truely was worth laying in bed for another half hour! It will be 50 years on the 15th january that the Cavern Club opened on Mathew Street in Liverpool and this programme celebrates that period perfectly...it had my hair standing with nostalgic reminiscence...that true musical history born in my old home city. The sound bite of Harold Wilson re-opening it in 1967 was interesting. The place and the people who played here really did have a huge influence on the global music scene...'the fab four' being the most famous and influential...but i'm sure they themselves had their idols and influences which helped to catapult them into the musical stratosphere. Anyway...hav a listen. Go to the website below and click on 'Listen Again'...'Inside the Cavern'...i'm not sure how long it will be available to listen again...enjoy...

SHOPPING IN LIVERPOOL

by sabsi about Schuh, River Island, Disney Shop, WH Smith etc etc

In Liverpool's shopping streets you will find all the chains you'd expect to see in a British shopping street. We spent hours here searching for Christmas Sale Bargains and had a great time. Trendy Shoes, Nice Shirts, Buzz Lightyear, Books etc etc During the sale you might be lucky and get a whole bucket of Toy Story soldiers for 1.99 ;-)

Live Music

by SapineKuu about Carling Academy Liverpool 1 & 2

If you want to see some great bands whilst in Liverpool check out the Carling Academy 1 & 2. From the outside it looks like an old factory unit and guess what? it looks the same from inside as well! Actually it is well suited to its purpose no seats but two concert areas and plenty of bar space within the actual concert area. Recent acts have included KT Tunstall, Zero 7, Bic Runga & Jose Gonzalez. Saw all of them and all were brilliant nights. None
