More about Marriott Liverpool South

Oasis!

by TripAdvisor Member OliversArmy

It's a bit strange to be writing a review of a hotel that's 3 miles down the road from my house...

We ended up spending 20 days (!) in this hotel courtesy of our household insurance company due a water leak. 20 days in a hotel can drag - especially with 2 small children (2 & 4), but this was certainly not the case in the Marriott @ Speke.

The hotel is as another reviewer has written, an art-deco masterpiece. It's the old Liverpool Airport terminal, complete with control tower and apron at the rear of the hotel. The hotel has been lovingly restored in an art-deco style to match it's heyday of the 1930's.

The rooms are clean & spacious, the staff are out of this world - they looked after us & the children so well. The food is actually quite good for a standard chain hotel too. We enjoyed the luxury of being able to use the executive lounge - the kids appreciated the chance to be able to stick a Scooby Doo DVD in the dvd player and annoy the hell out of the business regulars sat reading their FTs!!!

It's next door to a massive David Lloyd leisure centre so you've got access to the best in swimming pools/gym/sauna etc...

It doesn't matter that you're not in the city centre - it's only about 20 mins drive or 30 mins by bus.

A great hotel - I just hope I get to stay somewhere as good for pleasure in the future!!!

Very Nice

Our flight from Spain arrived back in Liverpool at 11.30pm so thought we would stay here and Drive home the day after .
The stay included car parking and they didnt mind if you stayed there after your flight ( rather than before)
We parked the car there and we were taken the short distance to the airport straight away . When we arrived back in UK it was a ten minute wait until taken back to our room . All the staff were very friendly and helpfull.

We were upgraded for free as it was our aniversary so don`t expect your room to be as nice . Really clean , nice bathroom and the comfiest bed ever. Minibar , large TV etc. Ice machines were on each floor .

The cost of the stay was £93 including parking which is more than we would usually pay but not bad value considering the parking and free lift to airport.

Cannot comment on food/ bar. Breakfast was £15 each which was above our budget so we got a breakfast from Mc Donalds just over the road for £2.79.

Not the cheapest hotel ( we are travell inn types) but very clean and well run . Great staff and location for the airport . We would stay here again if flying late/early from Liverpool without a doubt

Almost brilliant

Great decor - especially for art deco lovers - and very well-appointed rooms too. Friendly staff, and a good breakfast. The whole place had gone smoke-free when I visited, which was ideal - why can't they do it permanently?

Best Hotel Outside City Centre

by TripAdvisor Member The_Travelling_Fish

Stayed at the "Old Liverpool Airport" as it is known locally for a few nights before a trip to the USA.

I am from Liverpool originally and wanted to check the place out as it is fairly new.

The hotel has been built to very high standards and the rooms are very well appointed, the whole place has been well thought out in advance considering it has been converted from a very old building.

Location wise it is great, 20 mins in a cab to the city centre, 5 minutes from Liverpool airport and no noise from the busy road outside or from the airport either.

Very well worth the £100 per night and if you can get it cheaper then go for it.

Highly recomended.

Efficient and comfortable

We had a 6am Sunday morning flight from Liverpool John Lennon Airport so searched the web for hotels closeby which offered a parking service and transport to and from the airport.
The Marriott fitted the bill and we were offered a room rate of £75 which included up to 15 days parking and mini bus transportation for us and our luggage.
We liked the Art deco feel of the hotel, and the rooms, (our party had three) were of adequate size, spotlessly clean and well equipped with super comfortable beds - the only problem was we had to get up at 3.45am!
We had a meal in the Stairways Restaurant, which was good value for money, with efficient and friendly service from our Italian waiter.
Our alarm call was prompt and personal - not a recorded voice, and the mini bus was ready and waiting to pick us up at 4.10am. As the weather was foul, very windy with torrential rain, the driver kindly dropped us off right by the departure door instead of at the designated drop off point.
On our return five days later we contacted the hotel using the free 'phone on the airport information desk and the bus picked us up within 10 minutes and took us back to our parked cars.
I would highly recommend this service to anyone facing an early morning departure, or late night return to Liverpool Airport.

Stylish & Distinct

I stayed at this hotel as our works Christmas Party was being held there. We had fantastic night at the Cabaret Night with a really good meal in the function suite.

Although I only live about 15 miles away, this was the first time I'd visited the hotel and I was really pleased with the quality of the accommodation.

We had breakfast the next day which offered an amazing selection of food which we enjoyed at our leisure.

I would highly recomend the hotel and I hope we go back for our Christmas party next year.

Excellent Hotel - Highly recommended

by TripAdvisor Member Lashthecanary

This is an excellent Hotel. My wife and I really enjoyed our stay, we had been accomodated in a Travel Lodge on the Wirrell ' I don't think that that review will be listed' - we where so disgusted after two nights in that place that we just phoned on the 'off chance' and not caring about the price. We where offered a Bed and Breakfast deal at £86 per Night, per Room. When we arrived we were very pleased, the Receptionists could not have been more helpful and had the usual great Liverpool sense of Humour.

The Beds are so, so comfortable - the rooms are spotless - and the decor of the Hotel on the whole was very gentle on the eye.

Food, Service, Accomodation and Location - highly recommended.

Great hotel, Great staff...........Great city!

by TripAdvisor Member Love2travelme

Stayed in the Mariott while in Liverpool for a football trip in January. The hotel is really nice and its well run & efficient. The staff are brilliant and the breakfast is fab! The room are spotless and the beds are sooooo comfy! Great shopping centre across the road and its only £12 approx for a taxi back from the city centre at night (or early hours!) All in all a great place to stay, I'd highly recommend it!

Beautiful but room service was lousy

by TripAdvisor Member TheMonro

There is no doubt that the conversion of the Liverpool South Marriott has been a success and the hotels successes are well documented here. This review comments on the Ambassador Suite and Room service only and I only mention them here for completeness within tripadvisor.

The Ambassador suite was a joy and at only (a relative term I know) £189 per night was worth every penny. Split over two levels with the bed and TV are situated in a lower circular open plan area it had a sweeping stairway that followed the edge of the former tower and felt very Hollywood. It really was fabulous!

Fluffly bathrobes, splippers, the quality toiletries and jacuzzi bath tendered to our tired souls. The upper area is where you come in and has bathroom to your left and walk-in wardrobe to your right. Ahead of you is the 6 seater dining area, sofa and the descending staircase to the bedroom mentioned earlier.

The after hours food service was unfortunatley pretty poor and not worthy of its star status. We'd arrived after a 13 hour trip from Tromso in northern Norway and missed the full room service menu which ends at 23:30. The main courses after this time consist of 2 choices which was a beef curry and a Mushroom Stroganoff which were less than inspired. The sandwiches were pretty poor too and served on supermarket plain bread, we had hoped for a little more. However the items were served within 30 minutes and the cracking Merlot was great value at £14.

We were there for just one night and as the bed is lower than the rest of the room or should I say apartment! it was chilly (with the cold air dropping in to the bedroom area) and no amount of high heat settings could remove the chill while the dining area up top was like toast - reheating my half eaten sandwiches and curry!

Unfortunatley breakfast was equally disatisfying but bountiful and at £14.95pp could be regarded as expensive but did include full English Breakfast, cereal, Tea, Coffee, Pastries, Toast and Marmalade. Buy just one if your other half doesn't want the fry up.

To conclude, this review is obvioulsy limited as our experience was to include just one night in the Ambassador Suite and we only ate room service, but I thought it would be of interest to other members if they were booking this room for a special occassion.

The welcome and the goodbye at reception were warm and genuine and that counts for a lot these days.

Hotel of the Year Contender!

by TripAdvisor Member Ntsoelengoe

As I do my most of my travel in the U.S., an airport Marriot makes me think of a dull, anti-septic cookie-cutter style hotel. Imagine my suprise when I found out on a recent football trip to Liverpool (C'mon you Mighty Reds!) that the Marriot Speke has none of these qualities. There is little not to like: The hotel - which apparently used to be the Liverpool airport - has a retro, air-travel-in-the-1950s sort of a feel, including vintage BOAC prints in the lobby, a restaurant whose entrance looks like an airport terminal (but without the lines), and a two-propellor biplane sitting on the front lawn. Perhaps more impressively, the hotel service was of "Four Seasons" quality. All of the staff -- and especially the concierges - made us feel like we were the most important guests in the hotel. The beds were comfortable too - great linens and showers -- although the standard double room was a little on the small side. The restuarant had a really nice breakfast and dinner menu too -- although it didn't come cheap. All in all, if you don't mind not being in the city center, you cannot and will not go wrong with this hotel.
