Serbia - UK

by MusicPeaceLove

Hi, everyone.:)

I would apprecciate if you can give me some details about UK, Liverpool trip from Belgrade, Serbia. I would be very happy if you could suggest me which type of transport should I use. What's the cheapest etc. Thanks.:)

Hi,

Liverpool is my closest airport for budget flights and I've been looking at visiting Bosnia this year. What I've found would apply to Serbia equally (in fact, Serbia looks somewhat more convenient).

Seems to me that a good way to do it would be take a direct flight with the likes of Ryanair to somewhere like Venice or Budapest - plenty of good deals from Liverpool - and then take public transport through the neighbouring countries to your final destination.

For trains, the man in seat 61 has great info. www.seat61.com. It focuses on London to Belgrade routes, going via Cologne, but if you choose not to do this, it still gives you an idea of what's available and journey times. There are no flights from Liverpool to Cologne, and any from Manchester are probably not budget, so you'd probably want to go via Venice or Budapest instead. Budapest will be far more convenient for Belgrade I imagine - there is a direct train. Going via Venice would be more convoluted, but you could visit some other cities if you have the time.

Deutsche Bahn has train timetables, www.eurolines.com will give bus timetables. I think which is best depends on the route - for Bosnia, for example, I found that going one way on train, returning by bus fit better with my timetable.

Or Belgrade-London Stansted with German Wings, then coach National Express London-Stansted-Liverpool, relatively frequent buses, check the National Express website, takes about 7 hours (one change), approx. £40 RTN

That's interesting. I had no idea German Wings had that route. Off to check their website now...

It's worth looking at www.whichbudget.com and www.haresfares.com to see what budget carriers fly suitable routes.

www.flightmapping.com is also very useful.

Birmingham, East Midlands and Manchester (and Doncaster, come to that) would all be feaisble, using train or coach for onward transport to Liverpool.

www.nationalrail.co.uk for train times and fares. www.nationalexpress.com (or, possibly, www.megabus.com) for caoch times and fares. Coach is cheaper but takes longer.

Travel Tips for Liverpool

Check out all the Beatles...

by jpaustin

Check out all the Beatles things and tours--Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, the Cavern Quarter, the Cavern, the Blue Angel (they hung out there before becoming famous). Check out the general nightlife on Slater Street, and Cream/Nation if you're into hip, expensive clubs. There are also many theatres and a nice art museum and natural history museum (complete with planetarium). Getting there. Two friends from Wittenberg, my undergraduate university, and I flew into Manchester and stumbled our jetlagged behind to the train station, where we took a very slow train into Liverpool. We arrived at Lime Street Station, an open-air train station. From there we took a cab to the university and found our rooms with only a little difficulty. It was exhilirating and frightening to pull this off--my first time outside the US. Then I realized I was extremely tired and fell asleep, and felt worse when I woke. I suggest sleeping on the plane when flying to Europe.

Hopefully you have a car... If you come from the motorway M56, get out at junction 12 and take the A56 towards Frodsham. There, turn left at the first traffic lights and drive up the hill until you see a sign for the Forest Hill Hotel on the right. Follow that road and turn left to the hotel. You can park on the hotel car park or a little further along, where there is a gate to a protected area leading to a tall monument easy to see from down the hill. On the edge of the hill, along which runs part of the sandstone trail, also worth a good walk, is one of the most impressive view of Cheshire.
This spot is called Mersey view... guess why! you can see all the estuary from Ellesmere Port to the outskirts of Warrington, the Manchester Ship Canal and the river Mersey, the industrial estates and Liverpool.
Watch for the city's landmarks: the massive Anglican Cathedral, St John's Tower and then 'Paddy's Wigwam', the Catholic Cathedral.

And they are benches!!
And if you're patient, go for a spectacular sunset!

Shop til you Drop

by sandysmith about Lord Street

Of course all the big name shops are in Liverpool and you can shop to your heart's content all day if you wish.

Lord Street is the main shopping area but there are many smaller designer shopping quarters too.
