A Day and Night in Liverpool

by amitiel

Hi,
I am looking to take my partner to a footy match at Anfield in May, but figured we may as well make the most of it and book a nice hotel, meal etc - can anyone recommend a decent hotel close to the grounds and city centre (Ive only visited Liverpool once and seem to remember its not too far too the footy from city centre) and/or somewhere nice to eat?
Thank you so much :o)

last time I went I stayed at the radisson, it is nice (as expected) and I got a very good price. I certainly WOULDNT stay there at full price though. it is central enough to walk. Best breakfast I have had anywhere in any hotel (including other radisson hotels eg helsinki)

inside its build around an atrium which goes the full height of the hotel. it wil be quieter the higher you are, so you could ask to go up high

There is a Travelodge on Haymarket about 3 minutes walk from Queens Sq Bus Station. There you can get the 17 bus which will put you off right outside. In terms of closeness and quality of accomodation I would say that is probably your best best. If you're talking about somewhere more upmarket though try the Marriot in Queens Sq, which is even closer and is actually next to the bus station. There is a little block of chain restuarants that face right opposite, where you can get Spanish, steaks, chinese etc. If you have wheels and/or want the the posher option try "Alma De Cuba" or "The London Carriage Works" for food(which is also a boutique hotel) on Seel St and Hope St respectively. You may have to book ahead though.

Travel Tips for Liverpool

BEATLEMANIA

by sabsi

The Beatles are from Liverpool. Everybody knows that. I really like how the whole city still wasn't turned into a Beatles trap!

The local tourist information has a great slogan on their plastic bags "From MErseyside to YOU" and John Lennon airport has probably the most suitable slogan I have ever heard of: "Above us only sky". It's really easy to find great slogans for your business in Liverpool - there are so many songs to choose from ;-)

OK, there are statues all around Mathew street (The Birthplace of the Beatles), there's lovely souvenirs with the Yellow Submarine that I always have to buy when I am here, there's a Beatles museum and Beatles tours but that's about it. Not too much, not too little. Yeah Yeah Yeah!

Gay Festival - Liverpool comes out.

by drgrcook

A successful Gay Festival, a first for Liverpool, started on the 1st November 2004 and ran for 10 days with numerous cultural activities including art, film, comedy music and poetry, contiuing for the rest of the month.

Holly Johnson of Frankie Goes to Hollywood is showing his artwork at the Hello Sailor exhibition.

It is a scene about which I know nothing, but further information is available from the web-site below. A tourism guide is available which includes a map with a list of Gay-friendly bars, clubs, restaurants etc.

Dock Road

by William1982

Known locally as Dock Road, this was once the centrepiece of Liverpool life. Pubs and Hotels lined the road all the way from the Pier Head to Bootle. Now it's just a quick, and not so comfortable route out of the centre. A market, the Heritage Market takes place in the huge warehouse at Stanley Dock every Sunday.

A nice lounge!

by Bigs about Blue

Nice modern lounge with some good food as well. It's setting right in the Albert Dock does the rest. I really liked that place. Well, tehy let us in with our tourist look. Usually it's kind of a modern bar and you shouldn't probably wear your oldest ACDC shirt.

Travel to/from Liverpool by train

by londonlover

Lime Street Station is the bigger of the two rail stations in Liverpool, and a very pleasant place in its own right. We came into Lime Street from central England, then walked the 20-minute stroll to our hotel on Albert Dock. A taxi would be easier if you are loaded down, and would probably only take about five minutes.

Frequent trains run out of Liverpool in all directions, so it's an easy connection, especially from Wales, Machester, or the Lakes.

I would not drive in Liverpool...many streets are narrow (this is Britain, after all!) and twisty, and I would get easily turned around here in a car. Who am I kidding, I got completely turned around on foot several times in the central downtown area. :)
