Shop Shop Shop
Southport really is a great place to shop, shop and then shop. As well as the usual high street stores along Lord Street there are several more boutique style shops for that individual something amongst the several arcaded shoping areas:
Wayfarers Arcade (just off Lord Street) is a grade II listed arcade, a fine victorian stained glass arcade.
Royal Arcade (also off Lord Street) good for furniture , jewellery and collectables.
Cambridge Walks - quality stores and designer boutiques here.
Marble Place - shopping is a pleasure in this airy glass-roofed arcade.
Southport's Town Hall, found in the centre of Lord Street, is a fine example of the classical architecture that can be found here. Just is front is a cafe and the tourist information centre is also nearby. Leaflets and information about Southport's attractions and hotels are readily availbale here.
Southport - Merseyside
I have had many days out at Southport since I was a little girl, with my parents, on school day trips and with my husband and son.
Unfortunately Southport in my opinion has always been overshadowed by Blackpool a little further north along the coast.
Yet Southport is quite a nice place, victorian shopping arcades, miles of beaches, amusement park, lovely lake and gardens. Its a very open front with the lake and gardens.
"But where's the sea???"
Southport lies on the North West coast of England, with over 20 miles of beaches, its just that sometimes you can visit and never see the Irish Sea because the tide goes out that far!
Southport is very popular for its shops, some of which are quite expensive. I particularly like the Victorian glass canopies over the shop fronts.
