Old Postcards of Southport
Here is an old postcard showing the Promenade at Southport, probably in the 1920's. My father's grandmother originated from there and the family used to visit regularly. The postcards originally belonged to my father's sister.
The tide at Southport used to come in much further inland than it does now and the present promenade is built on reclaimed land. Southport must have been extremely popular in Victorian and Edwardian times.
When I was a small child we used to visit Southport 2 or 3 times during the summer months, just for a day out but never actually stayed there for any length of time.
