More about Kimberley Hotel

A little overpriced

by TripAdvisor Member mince963

We stayed in The Kimberley Hotel for one night ( May 2007) to attend a wedding nearby. We were allowed to check in early after ringing in advance and found the check in staff helpful. We were given room 201 on the ground floor directly behind the reception desk. The room was average sized but very clean and appeared to have been newley decorated. The bathroom was spotless with no mould or stains anywhere to be seen. We paid £100 for bed and breakfast as part of a group booking but my wife and i have stayed in more sumptuous accommodtion for that amount of money and we would certainly have felt short changed if we had paid the full tariff. We found the bed ok but had disturbed sleep due to noise from returning guests in the early hours and noise travelling from the upper floors in the night and early morning.
We had to leave early so missed breakfast.
The location is ideal for the conference centre and other attractions so this may explain the prices and sway visitors away from the more far flung hotels.
An iron in the room would have been a bonus

No Problems

Stayed one night on business. No hard beds as described previously, very clean comfortable room with nice views.

Even provided with early morning traffic reports via a bulletin through the door. This was a particularly thoughtful touch.

An Iron would have been useful though. Otherwise, ideally located, good food, service and easy parking at rear.

We'll be back!!

5 friends and I have recently returned from a "mum's only" 2 night break at the Kimberely.
We booked 3 standard twin rooms, all of which were spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean.
We found the staff to be friendly, polite and helpful.
The hotel is ideally situated near the International Centre and an easy stroll into the town centre with its numerous bars, restaurants and shops.
There is a helpful newsletter posted under your door each morning giving details of the weather, places of interest, traffic report and the evening menu - a useful and thoughtful touch.

We were booked in on a B&B basis but decided to eat in the hotel on our first night. Unfortunately for us, the hotel's head chef was off and an agency chef had been bought in to cover. Our simple order took almost an hour to arrive and when it did, the food was awful and went uneaten. Our fellow diners in the restaurant also agreed about the poor quality on this particular evening. Our complaint was dealt with in an efficient and sympathetic manner and the staff were extremely apologetic.

After that, things definately got better.
The rest of the meals taken in the hotel were absolutely first class and you definately shouldn't miss the sausages at breakfast!!
Despite the problem with dinner on our first night, we had a very relaxing and pleasant stay and we will definately return to the Kimberley in the future.

Great breakfast, good location, really helpful staff

by TripAdvisor Member davros33

We stayed overnight at the Kimberley Hotel on the way to Scotland from London. It is easy to locate off the A1. We had a decent room with a great breakfast and it's easy to walk into town. The staff were helpful and friendly without being at all intrusive. We booked through lastminute.com so this probably contributed to the good price we paid. We'd definitely consider staying here again on the way up north.

Good location and Price

I've stayed at the Kimberly about 10 times in the last 2 years. Rooms are basic but have nice touches like free bottles of water, great when you have had too much beer. The lounge is relaxed with a small bar. Breakfasts are noot as good as they used to be since the departure of the last chef, they are now mediocre. IF you can get a themed room, they are a little dearer, but well worth it. Best of all this hotel is at the bottom of the town so you don't have to walk uphill

Stayed here on business and cannot fault it. Rooms were basic but had alot of nice touches.
There were alot of selection at break fast time and food was good.

Staff were friendly and service excellent. We went out and came back and was still able to be served drink.
Excellent stay and will definatly be going back but next time for a leisure break.

Good location but interior is somewhat tired

by TripAdvisor Member ospre

Stayed here for one night for business in November 2007.

Check in was no problem and I went to my room. Although the room was clean and tidy the decor could do with updating. There were numerous marks on the walls and the bathroom looked very tired. Likewise the corridors and other common areas of the hotel are becoming quite shabby and could do with a make over.

Breakfast is the best part of this hotel with a massive choice of hot, cold, meat, cheese, vegetarian foods etc. The food was excellent quality and the restaurant staff were very helpful.

Staff were friendly enough and I had no problems with my stay. My company paid £95 for my room for one night. Although this isn't bad there is better in Harrogate for this sort of money.

Good Value for Money

by TripAdvisor Member PANDA5661

We booked direct with the hotel and got their November/December offer of only £55 per room per night for a standard room. This was a good deal certainly compared with what some of the other hotels were asking for the same time and what some of the Internet sites were asking for the same hotel.
The room was clean and comfortable and because we were at the rear on the 2nd floor no noise at all. Breakfast was good and the service also good. All the staff were very friendly. It is only 5 minutes walk from the town centre and given they have a good sized car park at the rear this is very convenient. The only thing that we would have had different is that we found the mattress on the bed firmer that we would have liked and a softer mattress would have suited us better. Overall good value for money.
