Rock Pools

I used to love to play around in the rock pools - these were more obvious at the far north, at Scalby. I could play for hours around there, looking for crabs & winkles - though at my young and tender age I couldn't tell a winkle from a periwinkle, so Dad had to sort them afterwards for me.

Seaside Tackiness

OK, so we're at sea level and this is where the "fun" is for kids. The seafront in South Bay is packed with amusement arcades (filled with gaming machines, video games, pinball, and all those other sort of things you'd expect). There are also (of course) shops and windows selling ice creams, chips, candy floss, waffles, tacky souveniers and so on, cafes and a few pubs.

Grand Hotel, a leftover from the spa heydays which now seems restored to its former glory after some dull decades. Behind it is the spa along the waterfront and further on up the cliff, even more hotels.
