Oliver's Mount
by steventilly
Oliver's Mount stands just to the south of Scarborough. It's a 500 feet tall hill and it's topped by an obelisk war memorial. You can't really miss it, bt most people see it and don't visit it. You really MUST visit it - the view from up here is fantastic, especiall in the afternoon when the sun is from the land rather than the sea.
TV series exterior
by Britannia2
The popular TV programme The Royal is filmed in Scarborough and viewers will recognise many of the towns famous locations in this far too infrequent programme.
The Royal is actually a block of flats on the corner of Holbeck Road and the Esplanade on the south bay. Interior scenes are filmed 80 miles away in Bradford.
On August 17, 2007 we came across Yorkshire TV filming scenes for a new series - I have put some photos in a separate gallery on my Scarborough pages.
Life in Heartbeat country

"Scarborough - The Spa to the Castle headland."
I never get bored with this view. Scarborough is a very scenic place, being situated on the North-East coast it tends to have glorious sunrises with clear skies all year round. It also has a low rainfall record.
However that North-east wind can chill your ears off so wrap up well for those winter walks.
"Scarborough from Olivers Mount"
Another great vantage point is the monument at Olivers mount. It offers views of Scarborough and north up the coast.
Olivers Mount is a road racing circuit that hosts several race meetings a year including a special bike week.
"Out and about in North Yorkshire"
There are countless opportunities to get with nature in North Yorkshire. One of my favourite bike rides is along the old railway route from Scarborough to Robin Hoods bay.
The view in the accompanying picture is from Ravenscar across Robin Hoods Bay.
