Thornton le Dale
by Britannia2
This is a pretty village on the edge of the National Park and a short drive on bus ride from Scarborough. The York/Leeds bus stops here and also the 128 from Scarborough to Helmsley.
The main area is a mix of gift shops and places to eat and drink but there is a nice walk to be made if you follow the river and then turn left back in to the village.
The best shop in the village has to be the chocolate shop which sells the best chocolates in Yorkshire!
Anne Bronte's grave
by Sjalen
Anne Bronté moved from inland Haworth to the seaside to try to ease the symptoms of her TB as many did in her days, but of course she didn't live long once she had caught the dreaded discease and died here too. There is a nice view from the bench next to her grave. A perfect place for contemplation and a must if you are in any way interersted in classical literature.
The Corner
by steventilly
Marine drive ends at a place known simply as "The Corner", where it turns inland and goes past Peasholm Park. There's a cafe/pub complex here and some stalls along the beach front. The best of these is "The Famous Waffle Shop". We each had a waffle here - it was actually Susan's first, yes, she risked getting cream on her nose and mouth and looking "ridiculous" - how she always describes me after I eat a waffle ;-)
I had ginger & chocolate and Sue had rum & raisin. Both delicious and Sue can't wait now to have her second waffle!
