Over the last weekend we enjoyed a very special break to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary. The location and high quality of presentation, service and food at the Mansion House Hotel Scarborough helped to make it a very memorable time. We found the Proprietors to be genuinely caring and helpful. Many thanks. Brian and Annette, Bradford, West Yorkshire.
Very Nice Business Break
Lovely hotel, one of the nicest small hotels I have stayed at. Having read the previous reviews before arriving I was a little apprehensive. However, this was soon overcome by the very warm reception we received on arrival being offered a much appreciated free glass of wine which was welcome after a long and arduous journey.
Had a Premier Room and yes the bathrooms are small but I have had smaller ones. The decor and furnishings of the hotel are extremely tasteful and give the hotel a very upmarket feel and image. The hotel guest bathroom was also useful as my partner used the bath a couple of times which was very nice as the room did not have a bath in it. She also used the spa facilities swimming pool and steam room which was excellent value at just £3 all day.
Like the loved touches in the hotel and the staff were very polite and attentive. Whilst the hotel does not have a lift I did not find this to be a problem. The Dinner and food is of a high quality and also good value for a 5 course meal. Enjoyed staying at the Mansion House Hotel and cannot understand the small number of complaints on the website. I took a quick look at the visitors book and the comments were very complementary; I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone and would have no hesitation in booking it again iwhen I am in the again.
A lovely view from the sitting room
I spent nine nights in one of the single rooms. Yes they are cramped but the shower, lavatory and wash basin are fitted perfectly into a small space. Being 15 stone I had no problem with this arrangement.
On arrival I was served with a glass of house wine, dry red and tasting of sherry and during my stay I had one glass of the same which to be frank was not very enjoyable.
I didn't take dinner because I felt 6pm too early and even my Scarborough friend thought the same.
The breakfasts were outsanding and a credit to the chef/cook and the coffee was good too which is rare in even de-luxe hotels but I'm afraid the breakfast tea was lacklustre.
This is a glorified guest house lacking the personal service of the owner who seems to prefer employing staff to run it for him whilst he works elsewhere during the day.
I would stay here again but not until I've tried the St. Helaina or Harmony Lodge Hotel.
Best Ever Christmas
Four of us went to the Mansion House Hotel from Christmas Eve until the day after boxing day and we had a tremendous time. It rated as the best Christmas we've ever had, plenty of very well prepared and presented food and plenty to drink. Jonathan the owner and Tina the Manager made us very welcome. We plan to go back during 2007. Our rooms were No.5 and No.11 and they were exceptional, large very well decorated and so comfortable.
Lovely short -honeymoon- break
We spent four nights in the Mansion House Hotel following our Civil Partnership Ceremony. We loved more-or-less everything about it.
We arrived very late in the evening, thanks to a cancelled train, and although we'd clearly kept someone awake to let us in, we were made very welcome.
The room was pretty small (we hadn't been able to get a Premier room), and like everyone else has said, the bathroom was tiddly. We also had to disconnect an electric spray air freshener thingy which was noisy and smelt very chemical and artificial. The whole place was spotless and really comfortable though, and the views were truly amazing: the binoculars were a fantastically thoughtful touch, and inspired us to use some of our Civil Partnership gift money on our own pair (Scarborough has two branches of Argos!).
The room was nicely decorated, with amazing curtains which actually kept the light from coming in, and while it was nice to have Freeview TV, it was even nicer to have a good DAB radio alarm clock. Our (huge) window got a bit stuck on the first morning, which worried us a bit, but one of the cleaners sorted it out for us immediately.
The public areas of the hotel were also bright and welcoming, and the rocking/sliding chairs in the lounge were great. There was a good selection of books and videos available to borrow, as well.
Breakfast was just right – plenty of food, cooked on request, and we had no problems with asking for amendments to the set choices. The waiting staff in the restaurant were friendly and attentive, and chatty and helpful without being intrusive. The world’s tiniest bar did make us laugh, though!
The weather was filthy the whole time we were in Scarborough, and the size of the bathroom didn’t help with getting stuff dry, but the weather can hardly be blamed on the hotel.
The location is just right – quite a walk from town, and uphill, but taxis are very cheap. The view to the left of the hotel, over the bay, is magical, and the walk down past the spa is beautiful.
For us, it was the perfect place to spend our honeymoon – just the right size (not so big as to be impersonal, not small enough to feel intruded upon). We didn’t see much of the staff until we were checking out, and while some people might have found that a problem, we loved that we didn’t feel pestered.
As far as we could tell, there were no issues at all with our being a same-sex couple, and although most people seem to want to go as far away as possible on honeymoon, we will always have amazing memories of ours: and we’ve booked again for our first anniversary.

One of the best in Scarborough
My second stay here and it was even better than last year. The staff are friendly and are always on hand when you need them, other than that you only see them at Breakfast or when you check out. Personally this is a good thing as you really don't want the staff to be there all the time.
The lounge area and all other public areas are clean and maintained to a high standard and the service at breakfast was good, even if the plates were a bit on the hot side.
The only downside was a smell in the bathroom which either came from the sink or the shower. I mentioned it to the owner when I was checking out and he said it would be sorted out asap.
Overall a good hotel with brilliant views and a nice walk to the centre of Scarborough. If you need a taxi the hotel has an agreement with a local firm which offers a discount.
Classy comfortable hotel
Classy comfortable hotel.
Breakfast and evening meal both good value for money and great quality. Friendly staff.
Beautiful views and setting.
Hope to stay again, perfect weekend.
After having stayed at the above hotel once again I just wanted to advise you of the experience we had there. This hotel is excellent and I, after 5 or 6 visits, have never had a bad word about it. The hotel is comfortable, clean, excellent food and the staff are only too happy to be of help to you. You are welcomed and listened to and nothing is too much trouble. The location in Scarborough is fantastic
and the views from the hotel are outstanding. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and I feel sure, that like, myself their experience would be second to none.
There has been an awful lot of work been done on the hotel and it has not take anything away from the natural charm of the place. It is a very old building but it has been looked after and I am really grateful for this. I enjoy the Mansion House Hotel and I always come away feeling relaxed and happy. In my, humble, opinion there is no other place to stay in Scarborough. I cannot wait for my return visit
and I only hope that it is not too long. I feel at home here and for me to be able to say that then it really is a special place. Well done to all the staff for the hard work that they put in with all the customers. Thank You
What a complete dissapointment!!!!
We only stayed 1 night out of the 3 we were supposed to stay it was that bad!. The hotel was surrounded by residential homes and located miles from the beach front, my disabled mother was not informed of this so had to spend a fortune on taxis as the first time we tried to walk to the beach front it took us 1 1/2 hours. The hotel was run by the Gastapo in seemed and we were harrassed by the waitress during dinner (which incidentaly was inedible but yet had to pay £30.00 to eat - so much for the QE2 chef). The hotel room was tiny and poorly lit. The 'manager' was incredibly rude and who woke us up by pounding on our hotel room door at 6.40am on the first (and last!) morning we stayed to interigate us about a fight that had happened OUTSIDE the hotel the night before and stood with her arms crossed and demanded answers from my mother who was incredibly upset. This was the last straw and we decided to leave. My mother never even brushed her teeth, thats how quickly she wanted to go! I complained to the 'manager' (the woman who had woken us up) and did not get an apology - in fact her attitude was very aggresive and unfriendly. I noticed she never wore a name tag - not that i'd want anyone to know my name if i treated guests like that! She never offered a refund or apology and we left the hotel at 7.20am on what should have been out first day there after arriving. We would have wrote our feelings down in the guest book but were anxious to get out of that horrible place. We have advised out family and friends to give this hotel a very wide berth and we are now advising anyone who decides to look at this posting. 2 months after this happed we have not had so much as a letter or telephone call apologising for the appaling way we were treated or the fact that my mother was reduced to tears by this particular member of staff.
Myself and my fiancee Joanna stayed at The Mansion House Recently for 1 night although I would have Stayed 2 nights had I not been Working on The Sunday..
