Travel Tips for Scarborough

Childhood Memories

by steventilly

My fondest memories of Scarborough (until my recent return there) were of my childhood holidays. We used to go there almost every year (sometimes we'd go to Blackpool instead). In fact the first holiday that I can remember was to Scarborough and Mam & Dad kidded me on that we were just going to Durham (6 miles from home). Guess I never realised just how long (or short) it takes to go 6 miles, cos next thing I knew I'm at the seaside!

Cable Car

by steventilly

The cable car ride runs from Marvels amusment park (at the top of the hill behind Atlantis water park) to Scalby promenade. Again, the walk is probably nicer (and certainly cheaper) but the views and the "exhillaration" probably make the chairlift wortwhile too.
It doesn't run all year long (it was closed when we were there - in fact it may be closed permanently).

The Spa

by Britannia2

Scarborough Spa Complex is located in Scarborough’s picturesque South Bay and is one of the most prestigious venues for conferences, exhibitions, entertainment and events on the Yorkshire Coast. Recently restored there are some very good concerts here including Lesley Garrett in October (2007).

Home

What can I say about Scarborough? I moved here in about 1988. Loved it here, met and married my husband and I don't think that I would ever moved back down south again.

The weather is normally awful, cold wet windy. But the air is fresh and quite clean.

The people are on the whole friendly.

The children are at a small school, the school that they go to would fit into a year in a school in Harrow (which is where I'm from).

We have two lovely bays, the sand is clean and fine. One bay is full of arcades and amusements the other has been left virtually untouched.

We have a castle which provides a wonderful back drop to both of the bays.

"North Yorkshire Moors"

We aren't far from the North Yorkshire Moors. Beautiful countryside in almost all weathers and seasons.

I will have to be organised and sort out pictures!
