Is it worth it?

by ladyjemma

My friend is wanting to celebrate her 20th Birthday in Scarborough this coming February. Would it be busy around this time for a good old pub crawl????

Scarborough is a great place for anyone of any age and no it will not be too busy in February.

Travel Tips for Scarborough

Get a tatoo or piercing!

by Britannia2

Well not for me but Eastborough ( the steep street from the beach on south bay to the town centre) has mushroomed with tatoo parlours and shops undertaking body piercing. They seem very busy with trippers and townspeople and so perhaps this is a local custom!
Thank goodness for the good old fashioned shops selling beach goods.

Great Italian

by Sjalen about Tricolos

Scarborough once had a great Italian immigration and this shows in the Italian restaurants here which are better than average in Yorkshire. Tricolos was founded by the Jaconelli family, one family member was even a Mayor of Scarborough, and whilst it has since been sold to an English family, they keep the traditions going. The ambiance here is great even if you might not want to visit it too early on a weekend night as the noise levels can then be high when it is crowded with families. You do well to reserve but if you haven't, you will be placed in the bar and can order a drink whilst waiting for a table. A win win situation. There are daily specials as well as an a la carte based on Italian classics but also a bit of Italian fusion such as a wok pasta. The dessert list swerves a bit towards the English but is nevertheless very nice and does include tiramisu. Staff is terribly busy but always friendly and the owner often walks about checking that you're enjoying your visit. What impressed me most was that they had Messina beer from Sicily ;) Most pasta dishes.

Boat Trips

by steventilly

The harbour does a roaring trade in boat trips. Two "large" boats run up and down the coast - up to Robin Hood's Bay (for viewing only) and down past Bempton Cliffs to Flambrough Head (again, viewing ony). There are also short duration trips in two speedboats, one of which The Velocity, was constantly in and out. That skipper was doing a great trade this day. There's even a replica pirates galleon "The Hispaniola" making short trips down past The Spa towards Cayton Bay. Finally, the old lifeboat makes more gentile short trips around the bay.
