Seaside Sculptures
by sandysmith
The usual beach activities take place here like any other seaside resort. People out on deckchairs, donkey rides, sandcastles being built by kids...oh and the bigger kids were engrossed in creating some sand sculptures of their own too....
Funicular Railway
by steventilly
In Scarborough's South Bay the town, station and the "posh" hotels are at the top of the cliffs and the beach and associated amusements are at the bottom. The Victorians made life easy for the visitors and built several funicualr railway lifts down to the beach. I'm not sure how many there are, I counted 3 but there may be more.
It's 40p for a ride - woth it just to say you've been on.
Going Down...

OK, get on the lift and go to the bottom, or walk if you like, through the new garden area created when one of the old amusement arcades happened to burn down. I think it's much better as it is now - Scarborough has enough arcades.
Scarborough miscellany

"Dusk"
Taken late one July evening in 2010 when the tide was very low. It was so low that the water in the harbour was nearly out and the pleasure boats had to berth near the lighthouse. The south bay beach was fully exposed and for the first time ever I saw people on the beach nearly walking near the harbour. As the photo shows there was a beautiful sunset and it is on evenings like this you realise how wonderful this town is.
"The South Esplanade"
Many visitors fail to walk as far as the far end of the South Esplanade and fail to see the beautiful gardens that stretch out along side the road. Down in the trees to the left are many twisting and turnings pathways and steps that never fail to amaze me as I find one I had no idea was there. There are the best views out to sea from here and some of the best views of the harbour and town.
Nestled below the South Esplanade in the trees are the beautiful Italian Gardens. The photo shows the street and the entrance to the Italian Gardens.
