Travel Tips for Scarborough

Coastal Views

by sandysmith

The South bay was popular and busy with tourists the day we visited but walking over to the North bay gave way to more peaceful vistas. I especially enjoyed the scenic coastal views such as this one..... Normally frequented by surfers but for some reason there were more in the South bay that day.

Boat Trips

by steventilly

There's all sorts of boat trips going on from the harbour:
"Large" boats (like the one at the right of this picture) with bars, cafes & toilets go up the coast to Robin Hood's Bay or down to Bempton Cliffs & Flambrough Head. You don't get off at these places, it's just where the boat turns around to come back.
The 1/3 replica of "The Hispaniola" (Long John Silver's boat) runs around the south bay.
The old lifeboat runs around the bay just outside of the harbour.
Speedboats (including the prolific "Velocity" which ran countless trips while we were there) run 10 minute or so trips out into south bay. This is just for exhilaration I think.
By the way, the stone building at the back of this picture is the Toll House from when tolls were payed to drive on Marine Drive. These days it's free.

Betton Farm

by Britannia2

This is the only children's animal farm I am aware of in the Scarborough area. Situated at East Ayton this is a farm where children can meet goats , pigs, ponys, donkeys , rabbits and guinea pigs. There is a large selection of toy tractors and play equipment. There is a tea room, farm shop and a honey bee exhibition.

Scarborough with children

by Sjalen

Children is what Scarborough is about really. Not only the Foreshore Road amusements with their cafes full of childrens menus. Nor just the Kiddieland and Peasholm Park fun along the North Bay, but also the castle of course.

The SeaLife centre I mentioned in my general tips is a great hit with children not just for the animals themselves but also because you can pan for "gold" in their outdoor cafe section and get a medal afterwards.

The Magic Castle is fun for the really small kids and the older ones will enjoy the lighthouse amusement park.
